Description of Reebok Fitwatch 10S Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Blue)

This Reebok strapless heart rate monitor is one of the smallest on the market and allows the user to get accurate heart rate without having to use a chest belt.
Specifically made for women, with its lightweight and slender design, this all-in-one heart rate monitor and sports watch by Reebok uses a patented method called "pulse technology" to measure the electrical pulses sent out by your heart each time it beats. Of course, the amazing part is that it works by finger touch rather than the cumbersome chest strap used by most other heart monitors. Within four seconds of touching the sensors on the watch, you can get not only an accurate heart rate reading, but also the number of calories burned during your workout.

The monitor has a programmable heart rate zone with audible and visual alarms to alert you when you get out of zone, plus a settable alarm if you have a maximum rate you should not exceed. Made from durable plastic and fully water-resistant, the device also features regular watch functions, plus a 100-hour stopwatch and countdown timer. It comes with a complete walking and exercise guide and one-year warranty.

About Reebok
Reebok's United Kingdom-based ancestor company was founded for one of the best reasons possible: athletes wanted to run faster. So, in the 1890s, Joseph William Foster made some of the first known running shoes with spikes in them. By 1895, he was in business making shoes by hand for top runners; and before long his fledgling company, J.W. Foster and Sons, developed an international clientele of distinguished athletes. In 1958, two of the founder's grandsons started a companion company that came to be known as Reebok, named for an African gazelle.

Sports reviews of Reebok Fitwatch 10S Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Blue)

Customer Review: Easy to use, works well for me
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I wanted a quick way to measure my heart rate while walking for exercise - this does the job well. I like that it is accurate while not having to wear an uncomfortable chest strap. I can easily wear this whenever I go walking (even for a lunchtime walk at work) to keep my heart rate in the target zone (the watch sets a target zone and flashes with an L or H if your heart rate is too low or high). I have never had a problem with the watch not measuring my heart rate by pressing two fingers on the buttons - it has worked every time. I take my heart rate while walking fast - no need to stop.

I also use the timer to keep track of the length of my walk. I have not used the calorie calculator, so I cannot assess that feature.

The reason I considered this watch in the first place is that it is fairly small and fits small wrists. My wrist is 5.75" and there are still two slots left to adjust for even smaller wrists. It is lightweight and the plastic strap is fairly flexible. The face (15/16" glass, 1.5" across from left edge to right edge) is a nice size, still a little bulky, but it is a sport watch. The blue color is nice - not too girly like pink would be, but more stylish than black or grey.

Update 11/8/08 - I still really like this watch. I wore it on a hiking vacation in October and it worked great most of the time. I did have some issues with the watch not taking my heart rate during some longer cold weather hikes (approx 30 degF and hiking for several hours). I'm not sure if the problems were because of the cold air temp or that my skin/fingers were colder than normal or that the air was dry and there was not good moist skin contact. Once I warmed up my hands and breathed warm air on the back of the watch where it contacted my wrist, I could get it to take a reading some of the time. I do maintain my 5 star rating since this watch performs well for most of my use.

Customer Review: Very Pleased with this Chest-Strapless Heart Rate Monitor
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I asked for and received this heart monitor for Christmas after reading the positive reviews on Amazon.com. I haven't been disappointed and have been very happy with the performance and ease of use of the heart rate monitor.

There is a little programming that has to be done initially, but the instructions were fairly easy to follow, even for someone not especially technically inclined, like me. Once done, to get your heart rate, you press the two silver buttons positioned - one of which is at the top of the face and other one at the bottom - until the numbers appear, which is just about 5-10 seconds. Also displayed is the percentage of your target heart rate that number represents.

I knew I wouldn't use a heart rate monitor if I had to wear a chest strap, so I was thrilled to find this one existed - and that it is so accurate. It's been very interesting to learn what my heart rate is with my various exercise DVD's. Working up a sweat doesn't always mean your heart rate is elevating! While I want to get a good workout, I also felt I needed to ensure I wasn't exceeding my target heart rate, as I'm not a youngster.

The watch itself is a light blue with a plastic band. I have very small wrists (about the only thing small on me), and the watch has enough holes that I can wear it with two remaining. The face is large enough to have displays that are large enough to be easily read, but not so large that it's too big for someone with a small wrist to wear. That said, I doubt I'd wear this as a watch, as it's a larger size than I wear my (fashion) watches.

Overall, I'm very happy with the monitor. The true test of satisfaction is if you'd buy something again - and the answer is a definite yes.

Customer Review: Perfect for my needs
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I just received the watch and like it very much. It took me a minute out of the box to figure out I had to press the start button to get going---duh. The directions only mention that once, and not at the very beginning, however this is more of a reflection on me since I haven't had any other digital watches.
The HR monitor worked fine for me quite quickly. In the beginning I wasn't getting a reading every time, and sometimes it still takes closer to 8 than 3 seconds. But as I'm getting accustomed to using the flat pads of my fingers, it's working faster and more consistently. It just takes a bit of practice.
It is very accurate according to the HR monitor on my treadmill, and it is fun to check my HR during activities away from the treadmill, such as my real resting pulse (lying down), when I'm up, when I'm moving about, and so on.
It's unrealistic to expect a continuous reading out of a product like this, and it's not suitable for someone who just has to know what's going on while they're running hard outside and doesn't want to pause or slow down to check their HR. I didn't want anything complicated, and I couldn't bear the idea of wearing a strap after ascertaining my general HR the first few times on the treadmill at various levels of exertion.
By the way, if you find it awkward to use your index and middle fingers to press the two buttons, it worked for me using my thumb and middle finger.

Customer Review: Heart monitor works perfect
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

After reading the many reviews I decided on this watch because I wanted a heart monitor that would work anywhere and for all activities with no chest strap and that fits my small wrist. Yes you do have to touch the buttons to get a read but that is just what I wanted. The read is very accurate and is better than trying to find and count my pulse. Yes I do have to stop the activity briefly to get a read but I think its because I m not coordinated enough to walk fast and push buttons and look down so you may be able to if your coordinated enough. (I would fall on my face). It only takes a few seconds and I don't think your heart slows that much in that short of time. I really like the fact that it has a back light feature and the size is small for a heart monitor watch. I like the color too. Very happy with the purchase.

Customer Review: I love this thing
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I waited until the heart rate monitors that didn't require a chest strap were affordable to buy one (they were $300 at one point, and CLUNKY). This one is tiny (relative to other models, i.e. the polar) and I'm very impressed. It takes about 2 -3 seconds to measure your heart rate, but it's very accurate. I like the calorie counting feature, too, although as the computer never asks you your weight it is probably making the calorie - burning calculaltion for a "standard" weight, i.e. 150 pounds. You have to make the adjustment (if you weigh less) yourself.
Surprisingly easy to use, too! I am hopeless with these things but this one is intuitive. I daresay I didn't even bother with the manual (does anyone?)
Great product, and a very good price for what you get!
