Sports reviews of Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle (Red)

Customer Review: I bought two of these two weeks ago
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

So far, five stars.

My four year old boy handles it fine. Hugely fun. It is quick, though, and definitely requires a helmet. They are no barbie jeep. I also follow the advice of making friend's parents see them and approve before their kids can ride them.

I read the reviews where people questioned the quality and battery life, etc. I see where if you bought one that had been sitting in someone's warehouse for a couple of years that you would get a bad battery. Additionally, if you don't keep a good battery charged, you will soon have a bad battery. The two that I purchased said they had been manufactured in August 2010 on the box and I have had zero problems. Clearly, some people have had a bad experience or have a bone to pick with Razor. I will say that I have emailed Razor twice with simple questions and both times received a prompt reply.

I keep thinking of them as being similar to the bb gun I got when I was young: A lot of fun, a little dangerous, and terrified my mother. It also required some responsibility, and some minor degree of maintenance.

I would also echo the comment that they seem to be engineered (size-wise) for about a six year old but I'm guessing that Razor has lawyered up when they say for age 8+. The biggest concern I have with my 4 year old driving one is that he doesn't quite understand the "drive on the right side of the road" thing and has come close to a few head on collisions when he's passing his siblings. He does this on his bicycle as well.

Again, it's only been two weeks, but two great weeks.

Customer Review: BEST XMAS GIFT shop rating: 5 Stars

i was very nervous about making this purchase because of all the negative reviews. i feel like i was taking a chance, but im really glad i did! fortunately, i did not encounter any of the problems the other reviewers had, and im not sure how long the battery lasts because we havent used it up yet (we usually go out for about 30-40 minutes at a time, so at least that much.)the quad itself seems very sturdy and durable, i used it myself for a few minutes and was surprised at how fast it could move with an adult rider. i would be very cautious giving this to a child who may not use it responsibly. my son is not the daredevil type, so i feel totally safe, but i could see how a child who enjoys wild rides or rough play could abuse this toy and become injured (i think all kids should be supervised while using this, anyway.)we use the quad on both concrete and grass, and a small hilly area, and it works great on all these terrains. i should also mention that we do not have a backyard, we live in a condo , so a lot of his riding is through the parking lots, and this toy offers good visibility and easy to use breaks. i would definately reccomend this product based on my experience (i feel this toy is easily worth DOUBLE the price) and i hope that future consumers have a similar experience to mine. there is also safety equipment available, dont forget this its very important.

Customer Review: Impressed
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I've seen my share of wheeled toys, and was positively impressed with the quality of this product. It has a solid frame, suspension, regular inflated tires. I'm not afraid that after a few days of use it will break, given the rough use it will get of kids at that age. I took it for a short test drive myself, and the motor was strong enough to move and adult uphill.

The shipping takes a bit longer and you have to be home to receive it. But it takes 2 people to lift the crate it comes in, so home delivery is worth the convenience.

I think the only design change I'd like to see is a reverse mode. The motor control only allows forward, which if you have to turn-around in a tight space can be tricky. But that's a minor issue overall.

Update (5/28): This ATV has seen a lot of use in the last few weeks, including many sliding wheel stunts, etc. After one particularly heavy right it stopped working with a blown fuse and control box. The one thing which is quite helpful is that Razor will actually sell repair parts for reasonable prices on their website, more than can be said about many other products. So if it does break, it's not necessarily doomed for the trash pile.

Customer Review: SUPER TOY!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

We bought this quad for our son's 5th birthday. He LOVES it! The quad is small, and requires little assembly. It took all of 10 minutes to get it ready. We did initially charge it over night and it works SUPER! My son can ride about 1 hour before it needs to be charged. The quad rides on pavement, grass, through trails in the woods, up small hills and over jumps with ease. The quad is well made and we were impressed by the quality, even down to the tires. This quad is perfect for an average 5 or 6 year old, and maybe a small 7 year old. (My son is around 45 lbs). My 8 and 10 year old found it too small, and their weight slowed it down considerably. It is definitly faster than his old Power Wheels, but not too fast that he loses control. It does go about 8 MPH as they state. I highly recommend this for children between ages 5 and 7. A child older than 7 would find it small and too slow! It is a great alternative to a real gas powered Quad.

Customer Review: kids love it
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

We bought this as a christmas gift for our 4 (almost 5) year old son. He was too big for many of the battery operated ride on 4 wheelers and there was no way I was willing to put him on one of the bigger gas powered ones. It is wonderful. Not only does my 4 yo love it but my 7 yo does as well. The upper weight limit is 120 lbs so I'm sure that this will last us for a while. I even rode it once and had a blast. The top speed is enough to enthrall my children yet not so fast as to keep me chewing on my nails! I have no complaints about the battery life. The battery for us has so far lasted about 2 hrs - enough that my kids have had their thrill and are ready to move onto something new. I would highly recommend this to anyone with active boys in the 3-8 yo range. I only limit the age to 8 b/c while the quad would be fine for supporting the weight of an 8 yo, it would be a bit like riding a big wheel when you're 6 - possible but not comfortable.
