How it Works: Pro-Tec Athletics' Arch Support provides a slight lift to the arch helping to support the plantar fascia (a tough, fibrous band of tissue that runs along the sole of the foot with attachments to the heel bone and to the base of the toes). Targeted support reduces stress to the arch region and alleviates inflammation and tearing of the plantar fascia. Design Theory behind The Lift: The Arch Support achieves results similar to taping techniques by offering upward compression to the arch. This is achievable because the brace is made from stretchable material. Therefore, support is present not only when the foot is on the ground, but when the foot is elevated between steps. I bought these after 8 sessions of doctor prescribed physical therapy on my back failed to alleviate some of the numbness/tingling in my legs, and I had taken to the Internet on a hypochondriacal bender to try and figure out what else might be wrong with me. Tarsal tunnel syndrome was a pretty good match for my symptoms (I'm on my feet a ton for work), and someone somewhere had recommended these arch supports as a cheap and easy thing to try before heading back in for more expensive PT. After wearing these basically constantly for a few weeks, my feet and legs feel much better. The one downside is that the skin on my feet under the arch supports has been predictably irritated by being wrapped up so tightly all the time. Of course, this kind of cowboy self-diagnosis isn't the only thing I did, it's just the thing that ended up working best. If you're feeling numbness and/or tingling, make sure to get checked out by a doctor so you know it's not something much more serious.Customer Review: Only Used Three Days So Far

So far, I find these supports give some relief to my plantar fac. However, I ordered a medium because it was rated for women's sizes starting at size 5 (I'm an 8). I wish I had gotten a small because the strap doesn't wrap to get the tightest fit for my normal sized 8 foot (I'm not overweight, so my feet aren't wide). It works sufficiently. But the excess wrap/strap then sticks out so it's not practical for me to wear them with shoes (too much to tuck into the side - if that makes sense). I wear them around the house as much as possible though and it really does give relief to have the added arch support. Just would prefer an upgrade on design and sizing.
