About Planet Bike
In November 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, WI. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high-quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, the company strives to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short 10-year history, it has made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the four-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that 10 years ago started as a one-man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve its product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

Sports reviews of Planet Bike Blinky "3" 3-Led Rear Bicycle Light

Customer Review: Cheap, effective visibility from the rear when you bike.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The purpose of any LED tail light is to make sure cars coming up behind you know you're there. The Planet Bike Blinky 3 does a fine job at that, stays put, has great battery life and doesn't cost much. You get two mounting options - a big cheap plastic clip for the seat post and a smaller clip for a rear side strut. I put mine on the seat post. In past years when I had a baby seat I would have used the side strut. You also get two settings - steady and blinking. That's the only negative in my book. I can't imagine using anything but blinking.

This is pretty much a no brainer. My wife's has been through almost 8 years of abuse and has had only one battery change. I didn't think twice when it was time for my bike and my son's to get this safety enhancement. I now bike a lot during the late night. I haven't had a close call with a car coming up from my rear yet. Enough said.

Update - 8 months later (6/5/09): I added a bike rack over my rear wheel and had to re-mount this because the rack's cargo obscured the seat post. Neither included mount fit the small gauge bars of the rack. I was able to use the small mounting clip by adding a small strip of black rubber (cut from an old inner tube scrap I had lying around). Because of the orientation of the rack's bars my light is now sideways. This arrangement works fine for me. I'm still on my original set of batteries and I use the light at least once a week.

Customer Review: Simple, Good Quality and a Good Value
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I bought this light about a month ago to use on my bike commute to and from campus where I attend graduate school. Overall, it's an excellent product and I'm very happy with it. Below are the pros and cons I feel are worth mentioning:

Pros
-Cheap: $10 is cheap safety!
-Good quality: It's made out of sturdy plastic and the red lens (which you remove to replace the batteries) snaps on securely.
-Waterproof: I leave it on my bike out in the rain and ride in the rain and it is holding up well. The switch to turn it on is sealed rubber and there is a rubber seal between the lens and main body that keeps the internal electronics dry.
-Highly visible: Riding it town at night, it's easily visible for a block or two and when on the blinking setting (the only one I use), it catches your attention.

Cons
-Yes, the clip and attachment system is a bit chintzy, but not as bad as I expected from some of the other reviews. I have mine mounted on the seatpost, and the larger bracket worked well (using both included rubber spacers strips).

Customer Review: A must-have for safety- SUPER bright!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I ordered two for my and my wife's bikes. No instructions were included but it only took a minute to figure out that you need to remove the red cover to put in the 2 INCLUDED AAA batteries. I really like that these run on AAA instead of lithium batteries due to ease and cost of replacement.

Mounting was very simple for our Raleigh & Trek bikes - right on the seat post. My only concern is that after tightening the screws the whole unit is a little wobbly. This shouldn't be an issue since they are situated under and protected by the seats.

I tested the 'steady' and 'blink' functions which worked fine. The lights are amazingly bright so don't look directly at them when you put the batteries in. Visibility is excellent and you could definitely use this during the day. At night you may be mistaken for some sort of emergency vehicle. At any rate - great for safety. I highly recommend.

Customer Review: EXCELLENT visibility!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

OK, I will admit that the clamping system could be about 10# heavier to accommodate every possible situation...

Pros: Inexpensive; Lightweight; VERY bright; Innumerable mounting possibilities

Cons: (I haven't found any yet).

The Bottom Line: If you want a military-grade nearly indestructible safety lighting system for your bike, look for something else. However, for the weight and price, this little light won't let you down (yes, you DO have to be careful not to drop it or throw it upside of a concrete wall or run it over with your truck - don't blame the manufacturer if you cannot or will not adhere to these simple guidelines!). I have the mount attached to an accessory loop on the back of my backpack so that I can just clip this light into place if I need to walk or ride at night. If anyone says they didn't see me, they're either lying or blind!

Customer Review: FANTASTIC!

Just fantastic.
Got one for my son - after I saw how bright it was, I got one for my daughter and for myself . The LEDs are so bright that they burn a hole in your eye if you are anywhere near ! Seriously, took a night ride with my son last night, and from 0.3 miles away, he was impossible to miss .

Fantastic product for safety - as are just about all PlanetBike products. We all have helmet lights, the blinking arm bands, and I have one of their Blaze 1 watt headlights too - all are just amazing products.

you can set this one to either constant on, or blink -- the blinking is a real attention-getter.

It also comes with mounts for either the seat tube, or the seat stay - I have a tool bag mounted under my seat, so I could not mount the light there - I mounted it on my left-side seat stay and it worked just great.
