About Planet Bike
In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

Sports reviews of Planet Bike 3034-1 Blinky Superflash .5 Watt LED with 2 Red LED Tail Lights (Black/Clear Case)

Customer Review: The best rear blinky I've seen.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Yup - I own a coupleathreefour of these two...

Pros: Extremely bright; steady or flashing; unique strobe-style flashing pattern; very adaptable locking/quick release/removable mounting system; inexpensive safety

Cons: I can't get my Congressman to buy 'em for me on someone else's dime (I guess you have to already be rich to get a government handout)...

The Bottom Line: This is a VERY nice, lightweight safety light that can be used pretty much anywhere - and can also be removed quickly and stowed in a pocket or bag in case you need to park your bike in the general population (hey, let's face it - scumbags will steal pretty much ANYTHING if given the opportunity!).

I am truly amazed by those who claim they have 'lost' one of these lights that has vibrated loose from the latching mount while riding. The Planet Bike mounting system is the most secure and versatile small bicycle light mounting system I have ever seen. You can mount one of their lights ANYWHERE that a safety light is needed! You can purchase an accessory mounting bracket from the Planet Bike site, epoxy it to the back of your head and mount a flashing light there that is visible for nearly a mile - and your head will fall off your shoulders before the light 'vibrates' loose from its bracket (assuming the light is correctly latched into place)!

At the risk of repeating myself, if you have one of these lights mounted to your bike, pack, helmet, child, shopping cart, etc. and someone says they didn't see it, they are either lying or blind.

Customer Review: Great Little Light!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I bought two Planet Bike Superflashes for a recent bicycle tour of Coastal Oregon and Northern California. My intent was to mount them to the flat light bracket on my Tubus rear rack, but there were no provision on the Superflashes for mounting to a flat surface... What to do? After trying several options I cut an old inner tube to the length of the mounting plate, split that section of inner tube, and then slipped it over the mounting plate. This worked something like an elastic waste band and the two Superflashes clipped easily and securely to the rubber-covered light mount. I checked the configuration a couple of times during the tour and it held up well; no adjustments required. The superflashes worked superbly during the tour. We cycled during conditions that ranged from rainy, to foggy, to low light (under canopies of Redwoods), to sunny and the superflashes were always on while we were on the bikes, which was seven-to-eight hours per day for two weeks. The lights always worked reliably and the batteries lasted for the entire two-week tour. I can't say enough good things about these lights and how they enhance rider safety. Having two of them mounted to my rack was an added plus. They absolutely generate a second look from motorists. So in sum you have a nice, reliable product at a good price. What's not to like?

Customer Review: FOR DAYTIME USE !! STAY ALIVE! USE THIS TAIL LIGHT!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Almost our entire cycling group (varies from 8-15/ride) uses either this Planet Bike Superflash taillight or the now discontinued Serfas TL1000 taillight on DAYTIME rides, because either one effectively calls attention to our presence from 1/3 to 1/2 mile away, EVEN IN SUNLIGHT. Daytime use started with one person in early summer. Within a few weeks everyone realized the value of these lights in enhancing safety during our one to three hour daylight rides and got one or the other.

Any blinky light works reasonably well in the dark (except in brightly lit urban environs.) What's needed is something that calls attention to us during the daytime.

Only these do the job well; the others are barely noticeable. Both come with seatpost and with seat stay mounts. Neither is made for non-cylindrical attachment points, such as the aero seatposts and stays on triathlon specific bikes. However, copper pipe insulation foam around non cylindrical seat stays makes it possible to mount the Superflash on such bikes. Get one for your bike; your survival chances will improve -- if you use it!

These remarks also apply to the Superflash Stealth model, which has a clear lens even though the lights are red.

Customer Review: Light, bright and well-designed for mountains or roads
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I'm impressed with this light. I do a lot of downhill mtn-bike riding and wanted a light that was bright, as well as durable enough to stay on the bike in the rough stuff. This light is small, super bright and has a pretty solid mount. There are two standard LED's with one super bright one. I actually have the one that has white LED covers (not red), but the LED's are red (not white). It has several mounting options and the mounting clip is... well simple, but also just well-designed. There are only 2 modes (flashing or steady) which is enough and makes turning the light on and off simple. The light is also easy to turn on and off and I can do it while I'm riding.
I'm not one to carry a pack while I do a daily ride, and I don't like stuffing hard objects in my pocket for risk of crashing. The trails are a few miles from my house, so I often return at dusk or in the dark. This light lets me do it without the hassle, weight or need to constantly remove and re-attach the light. I just leave it on. However, if you lock your bike, the mounting bracket has a clip, so you can remvoe the light in a snap.

Customer Review: Bright, attention grabbing, works!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The light itself is great! Approximately 2x1x1", sturdy, relatively water resistant, and doesn't seem to be prone to damage. The 'button' is well designed covered by the plastic case (press lightly on the case, which will then press the hidden button). As for the light, works very well, grabs attention during day and night! Focused to point in a straight cone, but has light to the sides and top/bottom (spill light on side only visible at night; spill in day is hard to notice). Blink pattern is 'blink blink blink BLINK BLINK' (very fast blinks, three times from the 2 small LED's and then twice from the larger LED). Also has steady ON mode.

The mounting mechanism is quite good. Though it's not sleek on the bike, it works well. There is a larger binder (designed for the seat post) and a smaller one (for seatstay). It connects well, light does not slip out when going over bumps or rocky paths.

At between fifteen and twenty, you can't go wrong with this blinky light. But if you want to try something else, go for the Cateye TL LD1100.
