Sports reviews of Planet Bike 3034-1 Blinky Superflash .5 Watt LED with 2 Red LED Tail Lights (Black/Clear Case)Customer Review: Not waterproof -- Not recommended if it rains where you live Sport shop rating: 1 Stars
I own several Superflashes. They're light, they're cheap, they're bright, and they have good battery life. The blinking mode is very visible but also very obnoxious to following bikes, but you can set them to solid on mode for group rides. And they're easy to mount to the seatstays, which is a convenient location on bikes that have a bag blocking the bottom of the seat and lack a rack or fender.
So why one star? Because they're not waterproof. In heavy rain, a Superflash will go out without warning, which can get you hit from behind and killed.
On a recent 400 km brevet, one rider had 2 Superflashes, which were both intermittently failing as water got in, then coming back on as the water drained out, then failing again. Luckily he had a third taillight that was more waterproof.
If you live where it rains at all and insist on using a Superflash, you should also use another taillight of a different type. But honestly I recommend not using these and using something else.
