Sports reviews of Planet Bike 1002-3 ALX Floor Pump with Love HandleCustomer Review: If you're looking for a floor pump, look no further! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've had this floor pump for the past year now, and to be honest, I have no complaints. Zero. None at all. It works very well.
The pump has handles that are ergonomically fit to the angle of your natural grip so you can pump in a natural motion. It comes with a beefy, flexible rubber hose that has both shrader and presta adapters on the same side on one end, so it's really easy to use. If I want to pump up shrader valve tubes, I use the shrader hole. If I want to pump up presta valve tubes, I use the presta valve hole. No confusion whatsoever.
Using this pump, I can effortlessly hit 100 psi on my tires (continental gatorskins 28x700c). What I find works well for presta valves is rotating the tire until the presta valve is at the top, pushing the hose head into the valve (there's no need to lock it in place for me at least because it doesn't leak air if I don't lock it), and pumping. When I'm done, I position my thumbs on opposite sides of the tire onto the hose head and push down, applying even force on both sides until it pops off. This way, I can ensure that I don't risk tearing my inner tube.
For shrader valves, I find that I have to engage the lock, otherwise the tire will leak. When inflating a Brompton 16" tires, I position the tire so the valve is on the bottom. When I press the hose head onto the valve, it'll start leaking immediately, so I have to firmly push down and immediately engage the lock. Interestingly, after inflating I don't have to apply pressure to push the hose head off the valve. I just lightly hold the hose and disengage the lock with my thumb, and the hose head just pops off. Pretty easy. You can even use the pump to pump up riding lawn mower tires that use shrader valves.
It comes with a little tool pod on the hose containing needles for inflating soccer balls, etc. I haven't figured out how to attach it/found a need to use it yet, but it's nice to know that I can use it. The pump comes with a pressure gauge (0->160 psi) with a plastic piece in the shape of a circle with an arrow on the inside so you can rotate it to remember what pressure you pump your tire to.
It's fairly light, and the aluminum barrel feels very solid in my hands. I don't think this pump is going to break any time soon. The best part is that 25% of Planet Bike's profits go towards bicycle advocacy!

Manufacturer Warranty Lifetime warranty About Planet Bike In November 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, WI. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment. Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact. Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high-quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, the company strives to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short 10-year history, it has made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the four-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that 10 years ago started as a one-man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve its product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.
