This is one of the few and definitely the best flashlight to achieve the ultimate approval, from MSHA (mining safety health admin ). For many many years, the pelican 2000 was only available to mining and firefighter professionals, branded as "hubbellite" 2000. We used hubbellites and Wheats almost exclusively for over 10 years when I was U/G mining in No. Nevada. They survived Constant water and moisture, cold, heat, stress, stepped on, kicked, bashed against drift walls, thrown into haul truck cabs, crushed, pissed on, you name it. I NEVER had one fail. It ALWAYS worked. You cant imagine the physical stress equipment sees in a mining environment. Aluminium bodied flashlights would never survive, they corrode or dent easily and let moisture creep in and fail. The 2000 uses some space age indestructible exotic plastic, it is way overbuilt thick, using a simple two piece design, cap and body. Only one o-ring is used. No switches, tail caps, or other gizmos to fail and let moisture in. So it is tremendous for any application in punishing, corrosive, very wet, and dirty enviros. In other words... perfect for miners, firemen, and divers! It's cool to see this flashlight available to the public (now called pelican). Im retired but when I need a flashlight I still reach for my trusty old hubbellites, I have several lying about in the car, house, toolbox etc. Some are +16 years old.
Only maintenance, the o-ring should be cleaned and light coating of silicone grease once a year, and clean the battery contacts every 6 months or so with a rubber eraser. Pelican says to replace the oring yearly but that isnt necessary.

This powerful flashlight was designed with one thing in mind: SAFETY.
