Description of Park Tool Advanced Mechanic Tool Kit

If you can't fix a bike problem with the Park Tool Advanced Mechanic Tool Kit, then you probably have no business working on your own bike. This set rivals most bike shops, and it includes a tool box to keep everything from disappearing behind your bench. Need to work on your bottom bracket, tune a wheel, change a flat, swap forks, open a brew? No problem. OK, so the Park Tool Advanced Mechanic Tool Kit doesn't include a bottle opener, but you should be able to figure something out. Try the pedal wrench.

Sports reviews of Park Tool Advanced Mechanic Tool Kit

Customer Review: Buy this even for a beginners set
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This has everything you need. Ok maybe some of the tools are duplicated with things you already have, but having them all together in one set means no more hunting down tools and rifling through drawers. The chain cleaning tool is also a worthwhile addition, it really does get your chain nice and clean. There are clearly tools that... I may never use. I hope I do, it means that I am truly getting to know my bike inside and out... but hopefully it will be maintenance and not emergency!!!! Great kit.

Customer Review: park tool ak-37 tool kit
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

i am very pleased with the item. this tool kit gave me nearly every tool i needed to get started with cycling again (i chose to add a 4th hand and a 13 piece allen wrench set because i wanted these items). i wish they had added citrus chain brite also. overall, i am very pleased with this kit and would recommend it.

Customer Review: It works
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Well it basically covers what you need. And like all things, you get what you pay for.
There is probably no other kit that is this good for the price anyways. That said however the tools you get are not Park Tool's very 'top of the line'.
I would say they are mostly 'home owner grade tools'. For instance, Park makes different grades of the same tools, like the pedal wrench, they make the,
Park Pedal Wrench (PW-3)), and the Park Tool Professional Pedal Wrench - PW-4 (which you get in the Park Tool Professional Tool Kit - PK-63) It has better ergonomic design.
Then the sprocket removal tool. ThePark Tool Sprocket Remover / Chain Whip - SR-1is what you get here.
In the PK-63 pro tool kit you get the , Park Tool Sprocket Remover / Chain Whip - SR-2, with better ergonomic design.
And the Allen wrench kit, the one here is fine, but the kit in the PK-63 is better.
Ok, but if you want the Pro grade of Park Tools you will have to get the PK-63, but that costs, $700 to $800 here.
So, like I said you get what you pay for. And if you really want to go all out you can get the Park Master Kit, (MK -195) which Amazon does not even list here. That one goes online for about $4000 or more.
So this took kit is fine for your average joe biker dude. The AK -37.

The reasons I gave it a 4 star instead of five, was the fact that the kit has the lower grade tools, and the fact that the kit gives you a bunch of junk most Mt. Bikers never use , like the chain cleaner, none of the pros I know ever use that thing, And the screw drivers and stuff, well, I'll use it, but I wish this kit came with the Park Tool FR-6 Freewheel Remover for BMX Bikes so I can change out my rear cog on my Single Speed mountain bike.

Customer Review: Pairing high quality tools with low quality tools at this price!?
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

It's been a few months, I've built a few bikes with this kit-- The specialty tools are excellent, the general tools are crap.

Excellent: The crank puller, pedal wrench, wire snips, and bottom bracket tools have proved to be the most useful/unique tools in the kit. These are great.

Crap:
-The tip on the chain link tool (chain popper) bent on the second use. I emailed Park and they replaced the tip, but it's still some low-grade, malleable metal composite.
-The tip on the flat head screwdriver broke off while opening a can of paint. Albeit, that's not the intended use, but seriously for the cost of this kit, that shouldn't happen. That's cheap. The smaller screwdrivers have a lot of flex in them and will eventually break/bend under normal tightening use.

As long as the bottom bracket wrench tool fits your bike, this kit has 99% of what you'll need to break one down or build one up, but the cost and the failures just wrecks the overall value. In a do-over, I would probably buy the specialty tools separately from Park and supplement accordingly, but then you wouldn't have 99% of what you needed to build a bike in one purchase-- and a separate tool box to house them in, which is surely worth something.

So, 3-stars for being off target, not a rip-off, but not a great deal.
