The set is perfect for a rugged individual. The fry pan handle converts to a clamp with the loosening of the bolt and nut. Two positive detents parallel the bolt to ensure the handle will not slide around when frying. Finished with a one-coat nonstick finish makes clean up easier and the black nonstick coating allows for faster heat transfer.A backpacker or solo camper will find this mess kit indispensable. A step up from kits of old, this one features a nonstick finish on the inside of the 3/4-quart pot, seven-inch frying pan, and seven-inch dish. All cookware is made of aluminum for lightweight yet sturdy use. A plastic eight-ounce cup with handle stores inside the pot with its snug lid. When all the parts are nestled together, the frying pan?s handle pivots over the pot and screws securely. I used this stuff over an open flame due to necessity. It held up for a three day backcountry adventure and took a week to scrub all the fire soot off but held strong. Durable and practical kit. My only complaint is that wing nut. I dropped it in the dirt a couple of times and would have been out of luck with no handle on the pan.

This is a great step up from my ancient boy scout mess kit. It is just like my old boy scout mess kit in that it has everything I need, is durable, and reliable, transportable, and most importantly... small. I bought this for a trip to Hawaii that was to include an overnight camp out. I wasn't expecting much out of this cheap little mess kit, but I liked the idea of the little pot for water or soup and figured it would serve as a basic set of containers as to avoid the dreaded paper plates. The overnight got rained out, so I can't review it's use over flame (though the non-stick surface seems legitimate and well done), but as a bowl/2 plate/cup set this worked quite nicely and was easy to store (it all fits into itself.) I was with a group of hikers with some nice equipment, but we used my stuff first when we prepared meals. The only minor annoyance is the bolt that keeps the kit closed -- which you have to completely unscrew to get into. This is a common feature in these things but was a hassle when trying to get at the cup for morning coffee :) Oh, and that cup is a lot sturdier than it looks in the picture!Customer Review: Nice, small set-up for the woods

I gave this only four stars not due to the quality of the set, which is very good, but for the size. The pot and frying pan are quite small, and I cannot imagine being able to cook enough food in either one to satisfy me. That said, I just bought a bigger frying pan, a couple of slightly larger pots, and am happy with the set up I have now.
I would suggest putting a paper towel between the layers of cookware to prevent scratching during travel.
Otherwise it is a good quality set, and with a few additions, will meet all of you outdoor cookware needs.
