Bill Bagwell has been known for his custom Bowie Knives for years. Ontario produced a series of his designs, the most popular being the"Hell's Belle". Bill Bagwell still makes custom Hell's Belle Bowies but there is at least a 2 year wait. I am fortunate to have his original "Devil's Daughter" Bowie which is my favorite.

The Drifter is atypical of a Bagwell Bowie. Most have blades about 10-11 inches, clipped point and sharpened swedge. The Drifter has a spearpoint making it more suitable for utility than combat. The sheath is high quality leather with a stud/frog which you just slip under your belt. The sheath is the same as the other Ontario Bagwells with the exception of the "Midnight". The Drifter has been out of production since 2007. A vault of brand new knives in mint condition was discovered in 2010.

Bill Bagwell wrote a great book called "Bowies, Big Knives and the best of Battle Blades". Much of the book comes from his column in "Soldier of Fortune" magazine, "Battle Blades". I would say that Bill along with James A Keating are responsible for the renewed interest in Bowie Knives during the past 20 years.

It looks beautiful and I recommend grabbing one if you have an interest in Bagwell Bowies. If you can find a Gambler or Hell's Belle I would choose one of them.

Description of Ontario Knife Company Drifter Bagwell Bowie

The Drifter Bowie is number five in Ontario Knives Masters Series of Bowies. The Drifter is a very sensible size knife with a 6.875" X .312" thick 440A High Carbon Stainless Tool Steel blade hardened to 54-56 Rc. 5.3125" inch polished coffin-shaped laminated Pakkawood handle with a brass escutcheon engraved "Drifter". This is a Spear Point Bowie (unusual today) with cartridge brass hilt ferrule pins and escutcheon. Measures 12.1875" from tip to butt Includes black custom leather sheath.
