Description of OnGuard Bulldog DT 5012 Bicycle U-Lock and Extra Security Cable

The Bulldog DT offers a 13mm hardened steel shackle that provides maximum cut resistance, along with an X2 double-bolt locking mechanism that locks to two sides of the bar, providing added strength and high pull resistance. The pick-, pull-, and drill-resistant M-Cylinder delivers even more protection, with a BumpBlok mechanism that renders bump keys useless. Similar to the tumbler systems found on high-end European autos, the M-Cylinder has more than 100,000 possible key combinations. These tumblers won't turn unless the key is properly inserted, protecting both the key and tumbler from damage due to misuse. The lock mechanism is also completely encased in ultra-hardened steel to resist drilling, picking, or pulling, while an integrated dust cover protects the internals from moisture and debris.
As a bonus, the Bulldog DT includes a heavy-duty, extra-flexible 10mm steel cable, letting you double your protection or lock up another bike on the same rack. Other features include an all-tube, quick-release, multi-position mounting bracket, protective coatings on the cross bar and shackle, and a tough vinyl cable cover. The Bulldog DT comes with five laser-cut keys, one of which has an LED micro-light to help you open the lock after dark. I've read many reviews. Can't say anything about others I haven't used to compare but I love this. If you're not in a rush in setting up and using there shouldn't be any problems. Yes you could break a key if you force it or don't push it in all the way. It may be weak and could be improved but so simple when used right - and there are extra keys. Try it first and you see how solid it is. I had the hardest frame to set this on, a mountain bike frame but it can be done. I always wonder if it's the competition complaining when I read a bad review or someone that got in a hurry etc. and blames the lock. The cable is perfect, I attach to my removable seat thru removable front wheel and to the U lock and not sure what kind of cutter would get thru the cable so you decide. I don't plan to leave it overnite in a theft area. Love it.Customer Review: Solid secure bike lock

This is the best bike lock you can use to secure your bike. The additional cable allows you to secure both your wheels as well. Its heavy to haul around on your bike, so if you plan carry it a lot, you may want to find a lighter bike lock. But if security is your primary objective, it's hard to find a better lock on the market.
I use mine to secure my bike at work during the day. I leave my lock attached to the bike rack when I leave at night, so I don't have to transport it back and forth every day.
I have another lighter lock that I carry in my bike bag that I use for quick stops at the grocery store on the way home. The lighter lock is enough to defer an opportunistic thief, but I feel better using this stonger lock to protect my bike when I need to secure it for a longer period of time.

So I thought I was buying the Pitbull DT and was a little unhappy when this arrived. In any case, I didn't want to hastle with returning it and I've been using it for the last few weeks. My reaction is that it is a more than effective lock for low crime areas. I live on a college campus and I actually have had a bike stolen. That was my fault though, as I left it unlocked while I visited a friends house. People here lock their bikes up with cheap cable locks and U-locks from Walmart all the time. I get the sense that as long as it's locked up with something, it's pretty safe. I know that's not true for all areas, but the Bulldog DT has been extremely effective for me.Customer Review: great lock for a great price!

i live in brooklyn and after doing our research my boyfriend and i decided to get this lock set- we weren't disappointed. solid quality lock that is still light and easy to bring around with you (unlike those kryptonite chains you see people riding around with wearing them like midevil torture belts) we've never had a problem- the only thing i would want to upgrade is that the cord is a bit short for my bike, though my boyfriend ha had not problem- i just got an additional cord- no problem...Customer Review: Excellent, Safe Lock

The Lock is VERY sturdy both in design and material.
The thick cable gives extra-assurance your bike is safe.
Of the 6 keys provided, one has an LED light attached.
The attaching bracket is functional but could be better in both instruction and design.
Overall: The Lock is excellent for any medium to low scale bikes. For better protection I would recommend Kryptonite New York Fagettaboutit U lock. A definite must buy for the price.
