Svelte, sporty, and stylishly subdued, the Nike Imara HRM women's digital watch offers enough flair to match your contemporary casual couture. It also offers basic chronograph timing features coupled with an accurate heart rate monitor, which enables you to keep track of your cardio training with a programmable heart rate zone (via the included chest strap) and an audible alert when your readings are out of that zone. Two countdown timers help you time alternate between hard and easy for interval training or run/walk events. It also provides two time zones, date display, and one alarm.

The Imara's black watch case and pre-curved polyurethane strap have a sleek, narrow profile with a durable, highly polished silver stainless steel bezel. Other features include a stylish, oversized stainless steel buckle, water resistance to 50 meters (165 feet), one-touch backlighting, scratch-resistant mineral glass crystal, and a battery hatch on the backplate for easy battery replacement.

About Nike
Nike watches are built to endure extreme outdoor conditions without missing a beat and they adhere to the company's founding mission statement: to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. And as Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman would add--if you have a body, you're an athlete. Ever since the fateful day in 1971 when University of Oregon track coach Bowerman poured rubber into his wife's waffle iron, technological innovation has been the spark that lights Nike's fire. The Waffle outsole transformed the running world and soon after Nike Air evolved Nike's revolutionary impact on sports. Beyond shoes--from watches and eyewear to carry gear and even socks--Nike is committed to giving athletes of every make, model and body style, who compete and recreate in ways never before imagined, the very best performance product. Here are just a few important dates in Nike's journey:

  • American record-holder Steve Prefontaine becomes the first major track athlete to wear Nike brand shoes in 1973.
  • At the 1976 Olympic Trials, Nike shoes are seen in abundance for the first time--worn by young, rising stars in both middle- and long-distance events.
  • The first athlete to win an Olympic medal wearing Nike shoes is British runner, Steve Ovett in the 1980 Moscow Games
  • The Just Do It advertising campaign began in 1988, and is now ensconced in the Americana exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum.

Sports reviews of Nike Women's Imara Heart Rate Monitor Watch

Customer Review: Overall, very happy!
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I haven't had any problem thus far with the HRM or the watch. it has some great features and it fairly easy to use.

Customer Review: Pretty, but not made for serious training
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

Had I known that the actual heart rate is not visible unless you are in the timer mode, and that in that mode, the timer is the larger of the two pieces of data visible (HR is shown to the right of the running time, and it's quite small), I would not have bought this HRM. For most people, I would think, HR is more important than a stop watch, and I don't understand why it would be designed this way. I do not know how I'm going to see that tiny figure while doing a cycling time trial - it's just way too small.

Other negatives: The watch is very stiff, and difficult to put on, and the excess band is quite difficult to thread through the plastic ring.

Postive: The chest strap is made small enough to fit a woman's body, which is a nice change from the men's HRMs I've tried. Color is nice...price was also quite reasonable.

If careful, continuous reading of your heart rate during training or racing is what you are looking for, don't waste your money on this HRM. Spend more and get one that will better suit your training needs.

Customer Review: Comfortable, Simple, but gets interfered with
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I wore this watch for the first few years of training for races. It is a comfortable watch, with very simple, easy to use features. I did have to eventually order a different heart rate monitor, because this one doesn't have the digital FM transmission that many other heart rate monitors have. The result is that it picks up other signals and starts displaying the wrong heart rate data when running by power lines, or more specifically when running with others wearing a heart rate monitor. If you're planning to wear it in races or with a training buddy, this feature might frustrate you as often it will pick up the other person's heart rate signal and display a heart rate of 240 or something obviously off. Other than that, it served me well!

Customer Review: Worked for 2 years
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I bought this HRM in 2006 and it lasted for 2 years. I did not use it consistently during this time either. I tried to change the battery because the belt stopped working but that did not help.

It's great for calorie counting but there is no distance tracker and the chest belt slides down during heavy aerobic workouts, causing the watch to stop counting calories.

Today, I purchased a Polar instead.

NICE PRODUCT SO FAR (I'VE BEEN USING ONLY FOR A WEEK). IT ENABLES YOU TO TRACK YOUR HEART RATE AND CALORIES. JUST A LITTLE "DIFFICULT" TO SET FOR THE FIRST TIME TO START COUNTING CALORIES.
