Sports reviews of New Wave Enviro Stainless Steel Water Bottle (1-Liter, Silver)

Customer Review: indestructable bottle
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This bottle is indistructable and doesn't leak. A great sports bottle for my active 10 yr. old.

Customer Review: just right

This is an outstanding non-plastic water bottle. The shape, size and weight are just right.

Customer Review: Stainless steel water bottle
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

This item came in great shape and was represented correctly. You can trust this seller.

Customer Review: Good, solid steel bottle, not perfect.
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

After reading a magazine article talking about the dangers of bottled water (apparently several brands have been found to contain live bacteria, for example) I decided to buy one of these things.
PROS:
Affordability--the Enviro is about the least expensive metal water bottle I have seen of this style.
Shape--the mouth of the bottle is wide enough to admit a decent-sized ice cube.
Material--this bottle is stainless steel rather than the commonly used aluminum. If you're considering this purchase to avoid the toxins that can leach from common water bottles, this is good to know.
Ease of use--yes, I know, it's a water bottle. Ease of use? What? This bottle includes a regular pop top nozzle like you'll find on biking water bottles. Much more convenient than unscrewing the cap when you want a drink. To add to that, it has a small one-way valve on the cap to allow for pressure equalization. You don't have to work against a vacuum when drinking out of this thing.

CONS:
Size--it is, I'm afraid, rather large. It's a 1-liter bottle, after all. It fits fine in the bottle holder on the side of my school pack, but for some people this might not be much help. Just be aware that it's about the size of a 1-liter soda bottle.
The screw cap--its fit in the threads is a bit looser than I'd like. I've never had the thing skip a thread, but until the cap is tightened, it does give the impression that it was made for a smaller bottle.

All in all, I've been very happy with this purchase. This item comes without frills, big brand names, or even paint--it's just a good solid drinking bottle that should last as long as the owner does.

Customer Review: Great bottle; horrible cap. Update: Water tastes horrible!
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I originally bought a 40 oz. Klean Kanteen bottle, but it's just too smooth and slippery, so I purchased this bottle for the gym. The ridged concave sides are perfect. However, I agree with the other reviewers who gave a thumbs down to the cap. It's difficult to pull off the top and the little rubber intake valve doesn't work - I just get a vacuum when I suck on it. Fortunately, the Klean Kanteen sports cap fits it just fine, so I'm all set.

As to the size, it fits fine in all the equipment at the gym and it's smaller in diameter than the old 1.5 L plastic bottles I used to cart around. But I don't ride a real bicycle, so I can't speak to that. As to the volume, I measured it and it does hold a full liter.

Overall, I'm very happy, but a star gets knocked off for the sports cap. Any prospective buyers should purchase a Klean Kanteen sports cap to go with it.

Update: After drinking out of this at the gym, I had a horrible aftertaste all night long. Not just metallic, but almost chemical. I washed it (again) with diluted white vinegar and let it sit overnight in the solution, which only slightly decreased the bad taste. After another night with the vinegar solution, the water out of it still tasted horrible. Something is wrong with this bottle. Water out of my Klean Kanteen tastes fine, but this is disgusting. Wish I'd waited to rate this - now it gets zero stars.
