I don't know what it is about this brace, but it has given me the ability to start training for another marathon. I have ran with it couple times and my knees don't hurt as much after. I do have to say though, that while I was trying to play basketball with it that it does tend to be a bit bothersome. I might think it's just the fact that I have to strap it differently. That is the real trick. If you're a runner, you're gonna have to find the right amount of stability and pressure that's going to allow you to use this brace. You can't have it too tight or else you're cutting off circulation to your feet and you can't have it too loose because then it's just pointless.
Also, with the metal hinges for support kinda do hinder my bending ability. If I have to stretch with my knee brace on, it makes it difficult to be able to bend my knee backwards.
