Sports reviews of Mountain Boy Sledworks Ultimate Flyer Original SledCustomer Review: best sled ever! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I absolutly love this sled! It is always the fastest and most beautiful sled on this hills. I originally got the 52 inch sled, and after a few weeks and some rough bumps, it got a crack. I called the company and they immediatly sent me a new one. Because it was so late in the season, they only had the 47 inch one. As it turns out, I actually like that one better. They even let me keep the 52 inch one to continue using it, so that they would be able to figure out what went wrong and how they can improve. I got a sled pad for that one, and now you would never even know that it is broken. I was pretty bummed to have a broken sled, but it is a wooden sled... they break. The important thing is that this is a company that stands behind their work. I do not think that I could have gotten a better product anywhere else!
Description of Mountain Boy Sledworks Ultimate Flyer Original SledOutside magazine called it a "steerable snow rocket." The New York Times dubbed it "an instant heirloom." Designed by a Colorado sledmaker, crafted entirely by hand, the Ultimate Flyer is an incredible sled. The whole front section pivots, so it turns far more sharply than a conventional flexible flyer. The bottom is molded plastic, not metal runners, so it floats through powder and bites through hard-packed snow or ice. The body and handle are kiln-dried birch, the handrails are willow, and the finish is marine-grade. Meets all USC and ASTM child-safety requirements. The Ultimate Flyer Original Sled is 47"L x 23"W x 4"H, 12 lbs. Built to last for generations and featuring a pivoting front section that allows slalom turns, 180-degree turns, and hockey stops, this heirloom-style hand-crafted sled is made of thick birch planks. Hand rails are hand-carved willow, with copper ferrules between body and rails adding to the rustic look while contributing strength. Three coats of marine-grade finish protect the wood against elements. See larger image.
| The sled's custom-molded bottom of high-quality slippery black plastic glides along with ease, while its wide stance keeps it stable. The sturdy bottom has a wide, flat center to float on soft snow and raised rails on the edges to track precisely on hardpack. Screws are stainless steel for durability. Suitable for a child aged 3 years and up and sturdy enough to support 300 pounds, the sled measures 47 inches long x 24 inches wide x 4 inches high and weighs 12 pounds. It meets all USC and ASTM child-safety standards and carries a 1-year warranty against defects. Assembly (instructions included) is easy. A 1-inch-thick pad with water-resistant nylon cover that fits the sled is sold separately. Specifications: - Body: birch

The Ultimate Flyer is an elegant, hand-made beauty that glides and turns like no other sled you've ever tried. The entire front section of the sled pivots, letting you make much sharper turns than on a conventional flexible flyer. And, it looks great standing on the porch in between sled runs. The Flyer is made to last for generations: thick birch planks, hand-carved willow hand rails and stainless-steel hardware make it tough, and the sturdy plastic skids on the bottom are designed to last for many years. When we build an Ultimate Flyer, we start with planks of beautiful, golden birch. We plane down the planks, sand them, burn in the Mountain Boy brand, and give every piece several coats of marine-grade finish. We attach hand rails of hand-carved willow, giving each sled a unique look and feel. Copper ferrules between the body of the sled and the rails add to the rustic look, while adding substantial strength. Just how strong -- well, some of our crazier fans take them off 6' jumps and see how much airtime they can get. On the bottom of the sled we attach a pair of proprietary, custom-molded plastic skids. We like to think of them as greased lightning -- they are very fast, but their shape allows for smooth, decisive turning. Contoured runners bite into the snow or ice so you can carve down hard-packed slopes, while a solid bottom of custom-molded slippery plastic lets the sled float through soft snow. The Ultimate Flyer meets all ASTM and USC child safety criteria. Measures 47"L x 24"W x 4"H. Patent-pending. Weight limit: 300 lbs. Age range: 3 years+
