Description of Mountain Boy Sledworks Ultimate Flyer 52-Inch Sled
Outside magazine called it a "steerable snow rocket." The New York Times dubbed it "an instant heirloom." Designed by a Colorado sledmaker, crafted entirely by hand, the Ultimate Flyer is an incredible sled. The whole front section pivots, so it turns far more sharply than a conventional flexible flyer. The bottom is molded plastic, not metal runners, so it floats through powder and bites through hard-packed snow or ice. The body and handle are kiln-dried birch, the handrails are willow, and the finish is marine-grade. Meets all USC and ASTM child-safety requirements. The Ultimate Flyer 52" Sled measures 52"L x 23"W x 4" H, 14 lbs. Holds up to 300 pounds.At 52 inches long, this sled is 5 inches longer and 4 pounds heavier than Mountain Boy Sledworks' Original Ultimate Flyer but otherwise identical. It's built to last for generations and features a pivoting front section that allows slalom turns, 180-degree turns, and hockey stops.

The sled's custom-molded bottom of high-quality slippery black plastic glides along with ease, while its wide stance keeps it stable. The sturdy bottom has a wide, flat center to float on soft snow and raised rails on the edges to track precisely on hardpack. Screws are stainless steel for durability. Suitable for a child aged 3 years and up and sturdy enough to support 300 pounds, the sled measures 52 inches long x 24 inches wide x 4 inches high and weighs 16 pounds. It meets all USC and ASTM child-safety standards and carries a 1-year warranty against defects. Assembly (instructions included) is easy.
A 1-inch-thick pad with water-resistant nylon cover that fits the sled is sold separately.

We received this sled for Christmas and just took it out for its maiden voyage today. WOW, is it fast! We had to drag our feet at times to slow down. It took a few runs to get used to and was mostly ridden by an adult and child together. Keep in mind, you need to make sure you have some weight in front to steer -- but it is very easy to steer if you keep this in mind. I am back on Amazon tonight to order the pad now. We were slipping off too easily and I think this will help. We highly recommend this beautiful, functional, fast sled to every family! I should also mention that my husband liked all the attention we got for having the coolest sled on the hill!Customer Review: Great sled, well worth the money

Best sled that I have owned since I was a kid! I still have my Radio Flyer wood sled with metal runners, and this Mountain Boy sled is almost as good as my antique sled. Very solidly made with wood, and hard plastic runners underneath. This sled is built to last for many years of enjoyable sledding. Very maneuverable with approximately 75 degrees of pivot steering. This sled is large enough and sturdy enough for my wife and I to tandem sled (approximately 350 pounds), and my 10-year-old daughter teamed up with two of her friends to fly down the hill. It is the most beautiful sled I've ever seen. It's varnished, not painted, so you can see the wood grain. It's beautiful on display in daughter's room corner, If you want a beautifully crafted sled that performs on par with the flexible flyer, then buy this sled. Because I don't have a lot of confidence in the black, plastic undercarriage, I just filled up with spiro-foam and it's working perfectly. Maybe it is an improvement that the manufactor may consider. I purchased this Mountain Boy sled on the strength of the Amazon customer feedback comments. The sled is every bit the quality I was expecting, even moreso! Due to an early snow, I decided to Christmas gift the grandkids early. Grandma and I were able to watch them enjoy the (schools closed)occasion on the local hill. They/we had a blast and we were back in the warm car long before the kids were ready to call it quits. I purchased this sled as a birthday present for my grown son. He has two young boys and there is enough snow in Illinois to make use of the sled. It turned out to be an excellent gift as they use it to spend family time together. The sled is a beautiful wood grain. It is a little more narrow than I expected and the runners on the bottom are a wide plastic although my son feels that makes it much safer. The front steers very easily. My son and his boys are winter outdoors people and love the sled.
