Customer Review: Best classic Runner sled made period!!

This is the best classic runner sled I have ever used. I tried 4 different brands before selecting this one. The fit and finish are exceptional and the bottom steel runners are extra thick and just seems much more stout than the other brands - although I have never seen one break I would think this one can take much more abuse. As far as speed this along with all runners are super fast given the right snow conditions. The steering mechanism on the front is a "pivoting head" and it seemed to grip better and turn easier in hard pack. Overall this is the best runner sled I have used. I would also look at the mountainboy Ultimate which is of similar excellent craftsmanship but has a unique plastic bottom runners - hard to describe but take a look at the pictures. That sled worked really well in a wider range of conditions - especially the deeper powder. I can not attest to how the plastic would hold up long term although it seemed sturdy; so for me the classic runner was the choice.

The Classic Flyer is what a runner sled should be: tough, with thick kiln-dried planks of beautiful northern birch and extra-thick powder-coated steel runners. Designed by a Colorado sledmaker and made entirely by hand, it features a unique pivot-front design that makes it the first runner sled you can slalom down on, avoiding obstacles and having the time of your life. Meets all USC and ASTM child safety requirements; marine-grade finish. Holds up to 300 pounds.Built to last for generations and featuring a pivoting front section that allows slalom turns, 180-degree turns, and hockey stops, this heirloom-style hand-crafted sled is made of thick kiln-dried birch planks and has extra-thick powder-coated steel runners. The "knees"--bent parts connecting runners to top--are also extra-thick steel to prevent collapse. Bolts are stainless steel for durability. Three coats of marine-grade finish protect the wood against elements. Suitable for a child aged 3 years and up and sturdy enough to support 300 pounds, the sled measures 52 inches long x 24 inches wide x 5 inches high and weighs 16 pounds. It meets all USC and ASTM child-safety standards and carries a 1-year warranty against defects. Assembly (instructions included) is easy.
A 1-inch-thick pad with water-resistant nylon cover that fits the sled is sold separately.
