Sports reviews of Moultrie Game Spy I-40 Infrared Flash Game Camera

Customer Review: Tested and proven
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I was in the market for a couple game cameras before the start of this season. I exclusively read user reviews on some of the more popular selling cameras and decided to cast my luck with the Moultrie Gamespy I-40. It turned out to be a great buy! I read user reviews of various cameras because I wanted to base my purchase off of actual performance. I will list the re-occuring Con's I found with the product from user reviews, as well as my experience with the two cameras I purchased, and the same for the Pro's.

Con's:
-Weak strap included (I found the strap is ok, it's the plastic clips that are weak. Suggest using traditional bungee cord)
-Hard to reach SD card slot (If you have medium size or larger fingers, it is difficult to swap cards without either opening the battery panel, or taking tweezers. Suggest tweezers)
-Product did not work out of box (This was listed about 1 out of 10 reviews, of those, the people that returned them generally said it was no hassle other than the wait, I did not experience this)
-Slow shutter speed (I agree with this, although, I use my camera over food plots, so I get plenty of pictures, if I was going to put this on a trail, I probably would get something with a quicker shutter, although, during day pictures, I have gotten pics of birds flying in front of the camera)

Pro's:
-Long battery life (the box boasts 150 days, so far, mine have been out for about 30 days (+/-), and the display reads 80%. My cameras have taken over 2,000 pics a piece, as well as one taking about 20 5 sec night videos)
-High Quality pictures (generally my cameras only take night pictures, that are of pretty decent quality. I have it on the highest setting, with a 2gig SD card, it can take over 9999 pics at the highest setting)
-Info Strip (phase of the moon, date/time, and camera name, took me a few times messing with it to be able to set the camera name)
-Video (again, only triggered at night so far, but watching deer move has been awesome, and the three of us around the computer woke up kids from yelling when watching video for the first time)
-Price (probably the biggest advantage of this camera vs Cuddeback's).
-IR flash (doesn't seem to bother the wild life as much as a regular flash. At first I had my camera on 1 minute delay, after changing it to 5 minute, I seem to get more pictures, so I guess a less frequent flash bothers them less)

For reference, my cameras are set up on the edges of fields, approx 10-15 feet in front of corn piles. One is facing into the sun, the other is facing away. Neither camera seems to be benefitted or handicapped by the sun. The fields were mowed in the mid to late summer, nothing was planted, they have about 2 foot tall highway grass growing in them. Occasionally if it's very windy, the grass swaying can set off the camera. This has not been an issue in regards to spamming my camera with blank pics, or running the batteries low. One set of batteries will most likely last over 3 months at the rate they are being drained. Included in the kits from amazon are 1 gig SD cards. I'm thinking of getting another camera for some other areas I can hunt, and this would be my first choice for a camera to be used over a food plot/bait.

Update:
Here it is, Jan, 2011. Of my cameras, only 1 still works. The display has faded in the sun, I recommend if you put these up, put some black electrical tape or some kind of flap over the display to prevent sun fading, though Moultrie did send me replacement screens at no charge and instructions to fix them, guess we'll see how it goes.
