Moultrie's D-40 digital trail camera is a great game camera to begin monitoring deer patterns on your land. The D-40 a has all the essential features you need to start taking pictures and tracking game. Pictures are clear and easy to read in full color day and night, with 4 megapixel images that can be shot in low, medium, or high resolution.
The Game Spy D-40 is equipped with multiple modes to meet all of your game finding needs. Auto mode activates the motion sensor, allowing you to leave the camera alone to capture images while you are not present. In automatic mode you have the ability to capture still images day and night with or without flash operation, 10-second AVI clips-video images during the daytime that will automatically switch to still photos with the flash in low light situations, and capture multi-shot images of up three shots. The camera is also equipped with a handheld-removable manual operation, and a setup mode that allows you to customize menu settings. The electronic flash can be set to automatic or in off-security mode. The flash range is from five to 45 feet.
Designed for multi-day, automatic use, the Game Spy D-40 has a built in memory of 16 MB of video and picture storage. Up to four GB of additional SD memory can be added. The camera images can be accessed via the 2-inch LCD display or output to a TV or a computer via USB. The camera imprints still and video images with date, time, and camera ID so that you always know exactly when the stand is active. The battery life is excellent on this unit, ours has been out a good two months and battery life is still at 50 percent, and it does not take a lot of unnecessary pictures. We are pretty happy with it. The only peeve is that it does not come with a USB cord, but mostly you can just use the SD Cards and view them straight from the computer on newer computers anyway. You can set it to take like 3 pictures every 10 minutes, or 2 every hour or just one at a time. We haven't tried to do a video yet.
I hope I haven't reviewed the wrong thing, ours says Infrared Activated Game Survelillance Camera 4.0 MP. It looks the very same.

I have never owned anything like this before, but I was chased by a dog recently, on my land, and wanted to see who's dog it is ... and I got photo proof of the culprit! This was extremely easy for a non-technical person, like me, to set up. I easily hooked it onto a tree and the first day I forgot to turn it on and since then I turn it on and then walk by it to test it. I have gotten excellent photos of coyotes and vultures; very exciting to see who is lurking around! The price was right and easy to set up and fun to use! I am buying a second card so I don't have to hike up to get the card and then hike back up to put the card back ...Customer Review: Amazing Camera

The photo quality is much better than I was expecting. I'm on my second unit. The first's IR didn't work and I had over 1,000 shots over one night. Amazon customer service had a new unit out that day. Been using it for about a week in sub-freezing weather with great results. So far have shots of deer, racoons and even a blue jay. The night flash is especially good and works automatically. Very easy to aim (2 options) and program. Had it up and shooting in about 5 minutes. I love the camera. I cant wait to put it out in the woods when spring comes.. I have been using it indoors and it works great. I have even caught my cat on the table at night where she shouldnt be... We had the flash off so it was pretty dark but I was able to pick out the cat on the kitchen table.. Now I need a scat mat to keep the cat off the table at night.. I like that you can have the flash on or off.. Off you would never know it was taking pictures.. I like that you can adjust the time in between it taking pictures. I've owned several of the higher priced trail camaras & haven't found one yet that's as good as the Moultrie D-40. I currently own 2 D-40's & have had them for over 2 years with no problems. I keep my camaras in the woods 5 months a year, moving them every 2-3 weeks to scout new locations & deer movement. The higher priced camaras use batteries twice as fast as the D-40 & some have even just quit altogether. I'll be buying more D-40's very soon & recomend if your going to by a trail camera, you do the same.
