Sports reviews of Lifecore R900 Rowing Machine

Customer Review: Solid & Sturdy
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I purchased this rower 1 month ago. It arrived within a matter of days, unharmed and a bit heavy. Assembly wasn't too difficult. The machine in comfortable, sturdy, and well-built. I am very pleased with that. Like other reviewers have commented, the screen is a bit hard to see unless you are towards the back of the machine but so far it hasn't been an issue for me. One issue that I am having is the lack of information that came with the rower. The instruction manual was a matter of a few pages, mostly focusing on the assembly of the rower. It didn't even say how to turn the machine on. I did find and read through the manual here on Amazon.com, and that helped a little bit, but neither resource has told me how to change from miles to kilometers. If any one knows, please let me know. I am going to get in touch with the company and ask them. Also, and this is no one's issue, but when I bought this rower 1 month ago I paid $599. Now, its $499! Just my bad luck I guess. Happy rowing!

***Update: (10/27/08) I finally was able to talk to someone at Lifecore fitness this afternoon after calling all morning. I spoke to a gentleman named Ron concerning my question about kilometers vs. miles. He told me that there was no way to switch between the two measures of distance. I must say that I am pretty disappointed in this reality. What is even more confusing to me is why when I first starting using the rower, it was reading in kilometers and now it has switched over to miles. Ron could not answer this question for me.

Customer Review: Good product for the $$$
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

About a year ago I decided to make a change after realizing I'm nearing forty and that I had grown content with being out of shape as though that was supposed to come with age. I was at the point where it was time to go up a pant size, but instead at that moment I decided that when I turn forty I will be in the best shape of my life and I had two years to accomplish my goal. That day I started running intervals outside for 30 minutes, four days a week or more followed by a light dumbbell workout. I soon found the flab starting to disappear, but also was having knee and foot pain, which started to slow down my workouts. It got to the point where I needed to come up with a lower impact solution or give up due to the pain. So I started doing some research and decided on an elliptical. I found that Workout Warehouse had a great selection and the best price I could find. I placed my order and it was shipped timely as promised and in perfect condition. It is now one year later and I have already achieved my goal of being in the best shape of my life, and have pain free workouts on my elliptical. I have set a new goal for when I turn forty, now I'm going to try and find those six pack abs...

Customer Review: Highly recommend Lifecore R900
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Just received my rower and love it. It is comfortable, solid, easy to use, and very quiet. It has just enough pre-programmed programs to keep it interesting. Other reviews found the display hard to read with all of the numbers looking like 8's. I found this at certain angles but feel this isn't a problem. I can see what I need to see without too much difficulty. I agree that the directions to put it together are poor but it isn't that hard and some of the tips on the other reviews helped. I did have some damage during shipping. Amazon and I were able to work out a solution very quickly and to my satisfaction. I highly recommend their customer service. This is a great machine at a great price. It looks like a new version has been released by Lifecore. Don't know if that means this will be discontinued but I'd scoop it up while the price is so good. One last FYI - the mat that is recommended to go with this machine is a good mat but just barely fits the machine in length. If that could be a concern, I would recommend looking for a slightly longer one. Go ahead now and buy it today. It will give you a great workout!

The display didn't work on the first rower we got, and one of the wheels on the front of it was broken. Amazon sent out a new one the day I reported the problem, and helped me get UPS to pick up the damaged one. The second rower arrived in good shape, and works fine. The different programs are nice, it's extremely quiet, and my wife likes it better than the air rower we use at the Y. The slightly padded seat is also a bonus. One of the most important features for us was the heart rate monitor. It comes with the chest strap, and displays heart rate on the LCD screen so you can vary your workout to stay in the target zone. The heart rate monitor is not available on inexpensive rowers, and with some of the more expensive ones, you still have to buy the chest transducer separately. Overall, quite satisfied with the rower, and because of their excellent customer service, extrememly satisfied with Amazon.

Customer Review: Solid, Comfortable Rower
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

I am very pleased with this rower after 4 weeks of use. It is very solidly built and the action is extremely smooth. Assembly was straightforward with no missing parts. As others have noted, the manual could have used a bit of editing, and some features, like the "pulse recovery mode" are very poorly explained, but you eventually figure it out. I really like the "constant heart rate" mode which interacts with a Polar chest strap (they actually provide a chest strap with the unit) and adjusts the resistance to keep your heart rate in a defined range. This is a good choice.
