I'm a big believer in lasers on my defensive handguns. I'll take any advantage I can get for a situation I train for, but hope never happens.
I have 4 Crimson Trace's and used to own a Lasermax. The lasermax seems on the surface to be a perfect idea - it was a simple install in a Glock. The batteries just wouldn't last more than a day. The holsters kept turning on the laser - the designed switch is in a spot that any holster I had pressed up against it.
The Crimson Trace's are awesome. BUT I bought a Laser Guard CT for my Glock 26. I have the grip lasers for a revolver, my Glock 23, and Glock 27. The Laser guard is wonderful except for the horrible lack of holsters that fit it. being a lefty, it's even worse.
enter the laserlyte. It's less money, and it doesn't effect the holster choice - LH or RH. I still go for the CT "button" out of instinct...but I am trying to train more with the Laserlyte too. activation is easy...just not automatic. FWIW, my wife and kids prefer the laserlyte...smaller hands, no change in grip girth...etc..
The laserlyte seems to work just fine for me at the outdoor range, but I only go to the 25 yard bunkers for pistol training...and most of the time I use only 1/2 of that distance or less. I carry and train for concealed carry for defensive use - more than 15 yards seems sorta hard to have to explain why I shot someone... when I'm not a LEO.
Anyway...I can see the laser on a black target at 25 yards ok. it's not as strong a dot as the CT laser, no...but it should be fine for what it's designed for. (to me) It's an option...a choice...hopefully you'll be happy with yours.
