Although this is the first u lock I have owned, I can attest that it's definitely a well built one. After my bike was stolen in downtown Toronto when I locked it up with a cable lock to a bike rack (it was cut), I decided I better get something much more reliable. Did a search and decided on this lock and I must say I'm very pleased. It's not light by any means, I would hate to have to carry this in a back pocket, but mounted to the bike I don't notice it. I like the fact that it comes with a built in bike attachment (which was fairly easy to install) and also that it comes with 3 keys. There's a coating on the lock itself so it shouldn't mark up your bike if it's in contact with it. All in all I'm very pleased with this lock and would recommend it. I bought it along with the cable to secure my wheels as they are quick release.Customer Review: Seems to be a great lock.

I bought this lock because of Slate.com's review of bike locks and this was the best according to their tests. The steel, silver looking clip is to attach it to your bike. I didn't realize this until recently, the bike attachment feature is pretty great.
The lock comes with three keys and one has a light, which is pretty nice for unlocking and locking in the dark. For a week or so I had problems locking the lock. I could get my key in but I had trouble getting it out of the lock, when I locked the lock. I have a feeling this was a user error. Once I started using the lock holder this problem stopped. I suspect I was trying to take the key out at an odd angle or something. Either way, this problem stopped and I have had no other problems with this lock.
This lock also looks good, and it's built well.

I have now owned this lock for almost a year.
It is very sturdy, and the included bracket mounts very easily to your bike. It's also large enough that you can lock your bike easily to whatever is around. If you live in NYC or something, maybe it's not heavy enough, but often, I find that whatever I'm locking the bike to would be easier to break/cut through than the lock itself.
Occasionally, the lock does get stuck a bit, but if you throw in a bit of oil or lock grease or whatever, it works fine again.
I am very happy with this product. Also, it doesn't weigh much, and the peace of mind you get by using a U lock over a cable is priceless!

1998 I bought this Kryptonite 4x8" U lock. Not for some fair weathered bike riding. I'd rather ride the horse. But for the outdoor gate at the other end of the property.
We had a metal lock on that there black metal gate. And someone smashed it up. So I got this monster and hooked the gate to the metal fence. Year after year. Over a decade of thunderstorms, sleetstorms, blizzards, freezes and famines. And Yes someone did try to saw it. Like a castle guard it just hangs in there.
I get out that gate bout once a week and it works like a charm. Abit rusted. But the mechanism is smooth and tight.

I read some negative reviews about the keys and I wanna say that I have had NO TROUBLE WITH MINE AT ALL. The lock is a little heavy and there isn't enough room to mount it on my bike but I just stick it in my back pack and that works just fine for me. The reason the mount doesn't fit on my bike is because I already have something mounted there, if you don't have anything already there it's gonna fit fine on any bike I've ever seen. All in all this is a GREAT LOCK and when I leave my bike somewhere I am absolutely confident that it's gonna be there when I get back. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this lock.
