Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel?
Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory.
Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen?
No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame.
Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer?
We do not recommend it and it will void the one-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
Can I put my Kanteen on a stove?
In a pinch, the Kanteen can be placed on fire or a stove. Beware not to melt the plastic lid or burn yourself.

The 18 oz. size is very handy. Fits in my bookbag pocket, as well as my bike waterbottle holder. It is also very sturdy. It doesn't break when dropped, unlike some plastic ones I've had, and the water doesn't get that "plastic" taste. Based on scientific evidence that there are a lot of bad plastics out there, the stainless steel is a great alternative from a health standpoint. I was looking for a way to stop sending mini plastic bottles of water to school, but didn't want to use aluminum canisters. This is the perfect solution. They are durable and attractive and my kids love them. They prefer the sports cap to the poly loop cap, so I'm buying more of those. I also got the pink sippy cup for my 16 month old daughter and she loves it. I purchased vacu vin rapid ice wraps (water bottle size) so I can keep the contents chilled in their lunch box and that works very well. I bought these for my kids lunch boxes. It is a good size for my 6 and 8 year old. I like that I can wash them in the dishwasher. The kids do complain that the bottles sometimes are hard to open. The seal is air tight. If I put the top on to loose it leaks. They just have to ask a teacher to help open the bottle once in a while. I feel that these bottles are a healthy choice, no chemicals from plastic leaching into the water. I bought the 4oz Kleen Kanteen for my 4 year old neice and nephew.
