Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel?
Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory.
Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen?
No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame.
Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer?
We do not recommend it and it will void the one-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
Can I put my Kanteen on a stove?
In a pinch, the Kanteen can be placed on fire or a stove. Beware not to melt the plastic lid or burn yourself.
What is stainless steel?
Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. I bought two of these for my daughter -- pink, and "orange sunset." A minor issue was that when the "orange sunset" arrived it looked a lot more brown than orange. Perfect size, glad I didn't spring for anything smaller or larger. Fits inside my computer bag easily. More importantly, I've used for 3 months & would buy again. It is very durable & never leaks, and I think the plastic cap should last years . . . I am assuming the metal portion will last me a lifetime, maybe I'll have my ashes stored in it . . . I enjoy spinning the thing around by the poly loop cap & as well as using that as a handle.Customer Review: so good I purchased two!

I love this bottle. Switched over from a Nalgene after seeing studies showing how harmful plastic bottles are. Love the wide mouth, which is easy to drink from, easy to fill, and big enough for ice cubes or anything you should want to mix in your drink. The changeable caps are also nice, so I can go from one cap which works best for the gym, to another which works better for a "storage" situation.
This thing takes a beating, too. I've dropped mine a couple of times and have had no problems. Expect it to last a very long time.

I've been looking out for the Green Moss 18 oz for a while now and finally got one. Grass/kelly green is my favorite color so I was willing to pay more to get the colored (vs. plain steel). I also thought it was give me better incentive to drink more water everyday. I was a little disappointed at the color - it's darker than I thought.
The screw cap goes a little too deep. It takes a few turns to get the top off.
Other than that, I'm happy with it. Nice design. I preferred the 18 oz because it's small enough so that it's not heavy when full and requires me to refill often w/ fresh water instead of water that's been in there too long.
THe opening is wide enough to clean too.
WIsh it came with the new sport cap or a lid that's connected (like a Nalgene).
