Sports reviews of Kettler Kettrike Air Happy TricycleCustomer Review: Great Quality, Son absolutely LOVES trike Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
At first, I knew nothing about trikes until I did a little research while contemplating a purchase for my husband's very good friend's son's christmas gift. We bought him a Kettler trike and I kept it in my trunk until we gave it to him. Once we took it out of the box, my husband was jealous as soon as he realized it was made in Germany and it looked very nice! Shortly after, we bought the Air Happy for our son who is only 7-months (reason why we didn't buy one for him at first: too young). My husband put it together like a breeze, and our son who can't reach the pedals (not made for 7-month olds *sad face*), was sitting on it and crying - begging that we push him around. Every morning, our little guy wakes up, crawls towards the trike, stands holding on to it, and starts jumping up and down and looking at us with his little puppy eyes, begging that we take him outside. He absolutely loves this trike.
The trike itself is very solid, it's sturdy, and tight. It almost reminds me of my Dyson vacuum, if you know what i mean. It clearly states, "Made in Germany" on the long portion of the metal, the seat is made of this soft plastic (not cushiony, just a nice plastic), the screws are easily tightened, everything is tight and well put together. I think if a thief broke into our house, I could kill him if I hit him with the trike - it makes me want to try it out. The tires have that new rubber smell (less intense than the rubbery smell of car tires). The tires grab hold of the pavement and you know it's safe. Plastic wheels slide so easily, I've seen my nephews fall backwards on their ride-ons, sometimes hurting themselves and falling on their heads. It's awful and painful to watch a child go through that type of injury, let alone your own child. I have, therefore, been very cognizant of purchasing products with rubber tires - something no one teaches you at Parenting 101.
The pushing stick on the back does the job. My husband thought it was a bit flimsy at first until we tried it out and realized it's perfect. I push the stick down a little bit, so that it brings the front tires slightly off the ground, in order to steer. The reason is because in the lock-mode, when you lock the handlebars so that your little one doesn't go steering all over the street, it literally locks the handlebars for both your little one and you. Surely, if you think about it, once the handlebars are locked, they should stay locked. It obviously has caused some confusion, as per all the reviews below.
At any rate, the colors stick out, we also got the red Kettler bell to go with it, which matches the red and the blue and goes perfectly well with this trike. It does look like a trike that might be a little harder to pedal, merely due to the rubber tires. However, there's a reason why the plastic tires are easier to pedal, they do slide easier which causes accidents. It's either, or, and you can't have it both ways - at least the kids will have strong pedaling legs!!
Description of Kettler Kettrike Air Happy Tricycle- Quick-Adjust frame with telescoping multiple frame adjustments
- Parental Control steering lock system locks handlebars into place for parental guidance and steering with pushbar
- Auto-Freewheel allows children to rest their feet on the pedals while parents guide them with the pushbar
- Komfy-Ride air tires for superior performance, road gripping traction and responsive maneuvering
- Safety powder coated handbrake allows trike to stop on a dime
Sporting a Quick-Adjust frame with telescoping multiple frame adjustments, the Kettrike Air Happy tricycle from Kettler starts small but can grow in small increments right along with your child (within reason, of course). The trike's Komfy-Ride air tires, meanwhile, grip tightly and maneuver responsively on any hard surface. Perhaps the coolest feature for parents, however, is the removable pushbar, which lets you steer your child down the street until he's ready to handle it himself. The pushbar coordinates with the Parental Control steering lock system, which locks the handlebars in place when you're using the pushbar, and the Auto-Freewheel option, which lets children rest their feet on the pedals. Also equipped with a safety powder-coated handbrake that allows the Air Happy to stop on a dime, the tricycle carries a three-year residential warranty.
