Customer Review: Effective Workout
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Kettlebell workout is great if you're looking for something different. I'm new to Kettlebell and think this video is good for the beginner and intermediate. I have been using a 7lb kettlebell for the past month and am moving up to a 10lb kettlebell. From what I have read, beginners should use a weight no more than 10lbs and intermediates should begin with a 15lb. I haven't worked out in a while so found using the 7lb to be ok to start with.

The DVD starts with chapters showing how to do each exercise correctly, then there is a 54 minute circuit workout for you to follow along with(although the DVD says 46 min). There are 30 sec breaks between each workout, which seems unnecessary at first until you get through about half the workout, then you're happy for the breaks.

Volume 1 covers the basic exercises, 1 arm & 2 arm swing, clean, 1 arm press, front squat, windmill, 1 arm rows, also some ab workouts - which are just basic ab exercises done with the kettlebell between the ankles. The exercises are very easy but you will get a cardio workout and these exercises will also help with strengthening your balance.

This DVD is the same as the DVD that says it's the complete workout version that came out in 2005, that costs almost twice as much. Both are 54 minutes in length and contain the same exercises, which I didn't find out until after I had purchased.

Customer Review: A simple kettlebell circuit interval workout
Sport shop rating: 4 Stars

Not a bad beginners Kettlebell Training DVD at all. She leads you through three interval circuits and mixes them up a little each time. For example, she starts adding more arm swings into the second circuit, etc.

Each interval has relatively low repetitions, so for more advanced Kettlebell folks, I'd recommended using a higher weight. I use this DVD for my "recovery days" when I don't feel like taking a complete break from my weekly routine.

Remember, this is an INTERVAL CIRCUIT workout. This means there are 30 second breaks between each exercise and this is intentional because you are supposed to be going as heavy as you can. If you aren't winded by the second circuit, you need to be using a heavier kettlebell.

Customer Review: Breaks are too long and missing stretches
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

I debated between a 2 star or 3 star, this is really a beginner tape so even if you think you are somewhere between beginner and intermediate go bigger because this will not make you sweat.
Pros:
1. Good leg workout
2. Shows you the basics of kettle bells (very basics)
3. Not hard to follow
4. Can complete without stopping

Cons:
1. Doesn't have a good warm up
2. Doesn't have cool down stretches (never seen a workout dvd without one!)
3. Breaks are too long 50% of this workout is you resting
4. For a beginner tape doesn't go over basics things like not what it is to round your back, she will say don't round your back, but I feel it is more effective to show what that looks like so you can figure out if you are doing it wrong or not.
5. Very short ab workout, should do abs every circuit
6. She is a little condescending to her team, when you return to a break it will show her saying something weird to the guy like good job just remember to keep your head up, but it's just weird, she never really talks to them throughout it so the fact that it breaks to show this is weird.
7. Doesn't make you sweat

In short I am surprised that some very crucial elements to a workout are missing, maybe they assume that you should know this, but they say they try to prevent injury, but not stretching is an easy way to become injured, luckily it's not a hard dvd so you can skimp a little, but really this is very novice and doesn't give you an opportunity to move up in the dvd itself.

Customer Review: A 30 sec break - Maybe .....
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

just keep going for another 15 seconds on the reps you were just doing then 15 sec of a light jog - or 30 seconds of a moderate/light jog? I also added some bicep curls, tricep kickbacks that helped with the "breaks". You should know at what pace to work your heart in intervals if you are not new to exercise.

I think the set up with breaks would work very well for an out of shape person with a 5 pound kettlebell. As you get better add higher weighted bells, shorten your breaks as you get stronger and it takes less to bring your heart rate down - interval training needs to be paced for your fitness level - so for some it just may take that 30 seconds.

I just tried this today and started with my 10 pound and before the first set of reps I jumped to my 15. That bumped it up nicely. I got a very nice work out. I will add it as one of my weekly workouts.

Pros:
Nice instruction sections - easy to follow.
Nice set of reps and exercises, with the right weight you can get your heart rate up.
Easy to follow.

Cons:
The production quality is equal to a nice video camera, not high end stuff you see from TheFrim, Gin Miller and other more famous instructors/companies (not that guarantees a quality work out!)
Inadequate warm up to say the least - makes me not want to recommend to a beginner - What was she thinking.
What I am shocked at and that no one mentioned this that I saw - NO COOL DOWN unless I missed it? Please tell me I missed it somehow

Customer Review: Only for beginners
Sport shop rating: 3 Stars

This item comes pre-packaged with the GOfit kettlebells. they are basic beginner DVD's. If you really want to learn how to use your KB get Encyclopedia Of Kettlebell Lifting Series 1&2 - The Ultimate Instructional DVD Series On Kettlebells And The Definitive Russian Kettlebell Resource. By Steve Cotter. That rocks. I can not believe the audacity of Sara Lurie claiming to be the "expert". When she can do what Pavel or Steve Cotter can do then she can claim she's an expert. Besides Pavel is the one who introduced KBs to Americans. really Lame.
