Description of Kershaw Ken Onion Rainbow Chive Pocket Knife with Speed SafeThe Chive series features Kershaw(r)'s SpeedSafe ambidextrous opening system for smooth, easy opening by both right- and left-handed users. The blade is made of high-carbon 420HC stainless steel for good edge retention, easy resharpening and excellent toughness. It's also less than 3" long when closed, thus making for perfect pocket carrying. Constructed of 420HC stainless steel, Kershaw's Ken Onion Rainbow Chive compact pocket knife features a 1-15/16-inch blade. A 410 stainless steel handle offers a titanium-oxide coating, which gives this knife its rainbow effect. Kershaw's assisted opening system, SpeedSafe, assists the user to smoothly open the knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or Index-Open system. SpeedSafe's torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by accident. In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use. Measuring just 2-7/8 inches (7.3 cm) long when closed and weighing just 1.9 ounces, this versatile pocket knife includes a limited lifetime warranty and an embossed gift tin. Sports reviews of Kershaw Ken Onion Rainbow Chive Pocket Knife with Speed SafeCustomer Review: Deceptively Effective Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This knife is wonderful! I'm one of the last people to get something that looks this "girly," but there was something about it that appealed to me. It looks cute and innocent, with the pinkish rainbow sheen (mine has a lot more green and blue than the picture), but it's wicked sharp. Since it is spring-assist, it opens lightning quick and can be deployed instantly for opening boxes or what-have-you. I like carrying mine with the pocket clip, but it comes with a safety lock so you can carry it in your pocket without fear of having it accidentally open. Very essential for the times when I'm wearing dress pants and can't have a knife showing.
It is very small though. It is perfect for kids or someone like me who has very small hands. Though I do have problems opening the knife with the thumb stud. It's just small enough that my thumb will slide to intercept the edge of the blade. Fortunately, it has index-opening and with one flick of my index finger, I can open it.
I carry larger knives in my jeans pockets on a daily basis, but if you need something discreet and stylish, you can't go wrong with the Ken Onion Rainbow Chive. It certainly looks inconspicuous, but it's incredibly useful for many applications.
Customer Review: Handy, Sleek little knife. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I'm mostly a kitchen knife collector but was so impressed by Kershaw/Shun Ken Onion that I decided to try a style of knife (sport) that is his usual forte. I'm just as impressed with the design of this knife as I was with the Shun/Onion knife. It's compact, it's attractive, and sharp enough to shave an arm with. I have the rainbow chive and I am still amazed that as much as I've used it, the surface and coloring is still intact and gorgeous. I'm now a believer in Speed Safe, and have my second Ken Onion (leek) on order. 50 dollars for a small pocket knife? (I hear people complaining) Absolutely, it's well worth the price, but anybody who knows knives knows that the truly good ones are never inexpensive and last a lifetime. You get what you pay for, and this one is well worth it.

I purchased this Kershaw Ken Orion Rainbow Chive Pocket knife for my wife. She has never had nor would she ever buy a nice well made pocket knife on her own. After reading reviews from several locations, I thought this would be the perfect knife for her. Well; she received it a week or so ago and absolutely loves it. She was so proud of it, she even showed it off at work to her all female co-workers whom also really liked it.
My wife has never been into anything as it relates to weapons and/or knives, However; this knife is perfect: for a good looking, well made, smaller profile utility/carry knife. This one is the ticket. Good Job on this model. and thanks
Customer Review: Amazing and handy 'little' knife Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I love the Kershaw Ken Onion Rainbow Chive Pocket Knife with Speed Safe. It is the perfect knife for anyone that desires a high quality cutting tool that is a true pocket knife and not a huge hunting weapon. The Speed Safe assist helps in doing everyday chores while the side clip keeps the knife at fingertip readiness. It is light weight to carry and not threating looking but this little powerhouse of a knife should never be under estimated because thought it may be small it is a powerful cutting tool for anyone to have. I have several plain Chive Kershaw Knives the Rainbow which I recently added to my collection was just for the pure joy of having a show piece.
Customer Review: Great buy on a great pocketknife Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
It took me a long time to accept the notion of paying more than 10 bucks for a knife. This is a great deal, though. Very, very smooth opening and closing action, keeps an edge very well, and is shipped to you super sharp already. What I really like is the ability to keep it on you almost all the time since it is very small and light. You have to be careful opening and closing it the first few times though (read: don't buy this for your Cub Scout). Overall, definitely the best deal I've seen in this price range.
