With the optional "PLUS" package, the Combi can be connected to a water faucet for multifunctional use in campers, cottages or boats. Key Features: - 2-stage filter (active carbon, ceramic) not only removes disease-causing agents, but also chemicals and improves the taste of the drinking water
- Simple change to 1-stage operation (only ceramic without activated carbon stage) reduces use of active carbon granules and ensures maximum use of capacity
- Long lasting and extremely reliable
- Tap add-on kit "Plus" offers simple connection to a tap in a kitchen, caravan, camper or boat--the only water filter for both indoor and outdoor use
- Cleanable ceramic filter element--also filters very cloudy water
- Measuring gauge supplied--indicates when the filter element should be changed
Ceramic filters have a micro porous structure with impregnated silver which delays the growth of bacteria. The pore-size of Katadyn ceramic filters is 0.2 micron (0.0002 mm). Bacteria range in size from 0.2 to 5 micron and, like protozoa (1 to 15 micron), are efficiently filtered out. Ceramic filters can be mechanically regenerated and the filter capacity is measurable. Activated carbon is used for its ability to reduce harmful organic and inorganic substances in the water. It removes unpleasant tastes, odors, chlorine, pesticides (lindane, DDT) and trihalomethanes (THMs). These substances adhere to the large surface area of the activated carbon. Activated carbon granulate cannot be regenerated. Specifications: - Technology: 0.2 micron ceramic depth filter and activated carbon

Sports reviews of Katadyn Combi Water MicrofilterCustomer Review: Worked Awesome Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My wife and I bought this for back-country camping in the UP of Michigan and it worked awesome. The filter is very sturdy and well built. I was not worried about "breaking it" when we were using it. It also is fairly simple design and straightforward to take apart. Plus, it provided good tasting water!!
We are looking forward to taking it to Isle Royale and giving it a good workout there!
UPDATE 6/3/10 - We have used this filter multiple times now (Porkie's SP in MI, Isle Royale, Pictured Rocks NLS, backpacking in Utah) - it has stood the test of repeat use over a few years now!
Continues to work well for our backpacking trips. No issues with it, as long as you take care of it (clean it after every trip; when you put new charcoal in it, clean the ceramic filter after pumping water through it; use a coffee filter on the end to help keep the ceramic in better shape). Good product, I like the design of the pump. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a good filter.
Customer Review: Great Ceramic filter Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought the ceramic because if you are in the backpacking/hiking and you have a paper type filter (like the katadyn hiker) and it gets clogged you are up "up $H!T creek without a paddle". The ceramic filter can be easily washed off and continue to work whereas the paper filters are done. This filter is a bit on the heavy side but I know it is built to last and will work every time.
The only thing I did not like was that they assume you are going to put this into a water bottle or Nalgene etc... It does not come with an exit hose. I use Camelbaks and I need an exit hose with the attachment to fill up Camelbaks through the Camelbak's hose. (which is also a great buy, if you haven't updated your Camelbaks in a while now when you are in the field you don't have to take the bladder out, simply take the mouthpiece off with a button and the filter hose attaches to the Camelbak hose, much easier than the old design)
Customer Review: One of the best out there... Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've had my Katadyn Combi since 2003. Chose it over the Pocket because of the ability to use Activated Carbon and I got a good deal... $120 including a spare filter and an extra set of gaskets. It can be screwed onto a Nalgene bottle or a regular bottle. The housing is actually quite sturdy but not as tough as the Pocket. It's seen a few backpacking trips in the Ansel Adams Wilderness, Inyo National Forest, Yosemite NP, San Jacinto, Ventana (Big Sur) and SE Asia. Pump rate is good at ~1L/min and the pump handle is big and comfortable. Filtered water tastes great. If you're concerned about viruses, add a chemical solution into the filtered water, wait 15 minutes and you're good to go.
Since then I've bought the Ceradyn for home use and a Gravidyn as a gift. Besides being cost-effective, they've all hold up very well. Ceramic filters rock!!!
Customer Review: Kept Me Healthy in Nepal Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I used the Combi for three months in Nepal. The filter allowed me to avoid polluting that beautiful country with hundreds of empty mineral water bottles. Another excellent reason to schlep your own filter is that travelers who must buy their drinking water tend on average to drink much less than the body needs. With a Combi you will spend less, pollute less, and enjoy consistently clean, good-tasting water. I do suggest traveling with a few more activated carbon refills than you anticipate you'll need. The water quality in developing countries can be rather poor. Replacing the carbon often keeps the water tasting good and provides additional peace of mind. Be careful about taking the Combi to cold climates -- the wet ceramic element will crack if allowed to freeze.
Customer Review: great water filter system Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Great water filter, I'd recommend it to anyone going backpacking and camping. We do use it together with a Steripen, though, just to make sure.
But the combination of the carbon filter plus the ceramic filter is great and the best choice! Water tastes fantastic! First we were worried that the "plastic" wouldn't be too durable, but it's very rugged and survived dropping on stone etc so I am confident it's going to last a long time. Definitely worth the money, and although not the lightest, we carry it along for backpacking and it's fine. Pumping only became harder after 3-4 days, so take the sponge with you to wash the filter in between.
