Customer Review: Fantastic Chin-Up Bar

I waffled some before choosing this chin-up bar over one of the lower cost, portable ones that can move from door to door within your home or apartment.
I even borrowed a popular portable chin-up bar from a friend to see how it would work in my house.
After the side by side comparison, I am glad I made the choice to go with this model.
A few observations:
1 - This chin up bar is the same quality of one that you'd find in your gym. The other, more portable, ones that hook above the molding in a door way, are not.
2 - The portable models do mark up your walls and don't work with many sizes of molding.
3 - This bar has textured metal at grip points (as the description states) which, in my opinion, is vastly superior to any kind of sponge-grip you might find on other bars.
4 - I use wrist wraps for chin ups and pull ups - which is made much more difficult if you have to use those sponge grips. The wrist wraps work perfectly with the textured metal grips on this bar.
At the end of the day, chin-ups are my favorite exercise to do on a *back day* at the gym - I don't think there's a better exercise for your back. It's always better to get to the gym than work out at home but if you HAVE to work out at home for whatever reason, this chin-up bar makes getting a gym quality back workout possible.
I think most people who buy the portable chin up bars are people who want to *start* working out and think that might be a good place to begin - which is fine. However - I'd suggest that if you already do chin-ups regularly, you'll be happy with this bar where you likely would not be with one of the models that hooks into the top of a door frame.
Regarding installation - the other reviewers are right on. I had to go buy 5 inch 3/8" hex bolts to fit the joist I mounted this to. That cost around $4.20.
If you have a drill with a 3/8" bit, and four of the proper size bolts - it should take you about 15-20 minutes to put this bar up and once it's up, it's staying up.

Made out of heavy 14 gauge material not light weight 16 gauge material. 23 1/2" between brackets.Few exercises work the back, shoulders, and biceps as effectively as chin-ups and pull-ups. Now, with this professional-quality joist-mount chin-up bar, you can perform them in the comfort of your basement, garage, or any other location with an exposed wood joist. The bar--which includes four 4-3/8-inch mounting bolts--offers a pair of transverse handles for pull-ups, with high-quality knurling at the ends and the middle for a better grip. The handles also tilt downward 30 degrees at the end just like the lat pull-down machines at the gym. In addition, the bar sports a couple of perpendicular handles with knurled grips, giving you an alternative hand support for exercises like hanging abdominal raises or narrow-grip pull-ups. The pull-up bar measures 48 inches long and 1-1/4 inches in diameter.
