After a long time practicing using the studio mats, I decided to buy a mat of my own.
A good thing about the mat is that it's not foamy. It's solid, but bouncy enough to protect knees and so on. However, I was really disappointed in other respects.
It sticks when it shouldn't, and doesn't stick when you need it to.
As my hands get slightly damp, which happens probably in the first 5 minutes of class, the traction goes. But it still grabs any clothing or hair that may come in contact with it. It also likes to stick to my toes when I try to switch between up and down dog. Over a short time, the mat has started to disintegrate on top. It has also started to come loose from the floor, and since it is so stretchy, it can acquire some very interesting contortions as my feet start going in different directions while attached to the mat.
It smells, but that's not something I care about. I've always loved the smell of rubber.
