Description of Ironman Gravity 4000 Inversion Table

The IronMan Gravity 4000 Inversion Table is built with a durable extra wide tubular steel frame with a scratch resistant powder coated finish. It has a Memory foam vinyl covered backrest with a removable lumbar pillow for a comfortable head and lower back. It has tough rubber non-skid floor stabilizers that provide stability when inverting. Extra long safety handles provide easy return to the upright position and vinyl safety covers are added for safety. The ergonomically molded ankle holders provide comfort and security. When not in use the Gravity 4000 can be folded for stroage.
Whether you want to reduce back stress or fatigue or stimulate your blood circulation, the Ironman Gravity 4000 inversion table makes a great household accessory. The inversion table contributes to your body's overall health by optimizing lumbar traction, thereby relieving pressure on your vertebrae discs and ligaments. And when your back starts to relax, the rest of your body follows. The table can also help with such areas as increasing body flexibility for improved athletic performance, reducing the effects of aging due to gravity, and relieving lower backaches due to sitting or standing.

The Gravity 4000 boasts a durable tubular steel frame, a scratch-resistant powder-coated finish, and a memory-foam-vinyl-covered backrest with a removable lumbar pillow. More importantly, the inversion system is a breeze to use: once you rest your body against the nylon backrest and slip your feet into the ergonomically molded ankle cushions, simply reach your arms over your head. As your arms go up, your body gradually inverts up to 90 degrees. The only inputs are your energy and gravity itself.

Users will also appreciate the tough rubber non-skid floor stabilizers, which keep the table stable while you invert, and the extra-long safety handles, which provide an easy return to an upright position. Other details include a height-adjustable frame up to 6 feet 6 inches; support for up to 350 pounds; vinyl safety side covers to protect hands and fingers; three starting inversion angles; and a patented, palm-activated adjusting ratchet ankle locking system. The Gravity 4000, which folds into a compact footprint for easy storage, measures 26 by 65 by 49 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 75 pounds.

Sports reviews of Ironman Gravity 4000 Inversion Table

Customer Review: What a Relief!!!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have never owned or even tried an inversion table until I bought the Ironman 4000. I am very glad that I did. I don't suffer from extreme back pain like some of the reviews that I read, but I would say that I have mild to moderate back pain on a daily basis. I've been a flooring installer for 26 years & it has taken it's toll!

As for the product, it was shipped directly to my door. It even arrived a couple of days early! It's moderately heavy, so those who don't lift much should be ready for that. Assembly was pretty easy. It comes with its own throw away tools, so you're good there. It took about an hour or so to assemble, but I wasn't pushing it. I could have done it quicker. The directions for use are pretty easy, & in no time I was inverting!

Since I've never hung before, the first time or two was somewhat shocking. I wasn't ready for the pressure in my face, ears & sinuses. I only did it for a minute or two, then gradually learned how to do it properly. What I do is lay on the table flat for a moment, then I take it over slightly for a moment, & gradually work my way to full inversion. It gives my body time to react to the change in blood flow. I've had the machine for about a month now & I feel like an old pro at it! I also do the same thing when coming upright. I bring myself back slowly. Less shock to the system that way.

As for results; I felt relief almost immediately. I try to invert in the morning & then again after work in the evening. I have noticed several physical changes since starting therapy. I can stand up longer without feeling "that pain" that causes me to lean on something. I can't prove it, but my posture feels better. Also, I've had an issue that when I sneeze, I get a sharp pain in my back. That has been slowly getting better! It hasn't been the cure all to all of my problems, but it sure is helping.

As for the down side.... the only negative part that I have found is that it is kind of tough on the ankles. I found that wearing my tennis shoes helps a lot better than bare foot or in socks. But I knew to expect that discomfort by reading these reviews! What do you expect? You're hanging your body upside down from your ankles! The padded, ratcheting clamp works as well as can be expected. I'm about 195 pounds, so I might think that someone who is heavier might feel it more. Oh, one other thing, & it's really not a negative. Be sure you have ample ceiling height for the machine. If you have a low ceiling basement, you'll need close to 7 feet for it to fully invert.

In closing, I am 100% happy with the machine at this point. It's extremely sturdy & well built. It does what it says it does. And in using it as a tool against back pain, it has helped me to improve myself. This is not a tool that will sit in the corner gathering dust! After looking at other reviews, I believe that I made the right choice by shelling out a few extra buckes for the upgraded machine. My inverting experience has been very positive.

Customer Review: Very well-designed, sturdy and comfortable
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The Ironman Gravity 4000 is a very well-designed inversion table. It is also very sturdy and comfortable. I had the opportunity to try the less expensive Gravity 1000 model before ordering this one, and I am very glad I spent the extra $100 on the 4000.

The memory foam makes the back rest much more comfortable. Originally I thought I would primarily invert the full 90 degrees and therefore it wouldn't matter whether or not the back was padded. As it turned out, I found that I get better results only inverting about 60 degrees, and it is significantly less stressful on my joints, especially my knees, feet and ankles. The memory foam padding is therefore a very nice addition.

The other main difference is the improved ankle release which is a terrific upgrade in my opinion. If you have back problems and herniated discs, having an easy release that is higher up is much easier on your body after returning upright compared to having to bend over and pull, up as is required with the Gravity 1000. The ankle release on the Gravity 4000, on the other hand, requires a very light downward pressure on the knob to easily release one's ankles. Brilliant.

I use the Gravity 4000 Inversion Table several times a day for a few minutes at a time, and have already noticed a reduction in my sciatic and other pain.

The box was big and heavy, but I was home when it arrived and the UPS person helped me drag it inside. It took me about an hour to put it together myself. It would have been nice to have an extra pair of hands when I went to lift the padded back to place it on the frame, but other than that it wasn't difficult to manage by myself.

Make sure you search the web for contraindications before purchasing or using an inversion table. The Teeter site has a comprehensive list. People taking blood thinning drugs, or with heart and circulatory problems, joint problems, glaucoma and other eye problems, hiatal or ventral hernias, high blood pressure, inner ear problems, previous history of stroke or transient ischemic attacks should not use an inversion table. That is not a complete list of contraindications. Please check with your health provider before inverting.

One last thing... I had wanted to purchase from Amazon because it is my preferred online seller. I spent a week researching tables and reading reviews and looking at this table each day, but the day I went to purchase this table Amazon had raised the price $50. I ended up having to order it from another site for $50 less, and then a week later when I went to reference a review, the table was back down to the original price here. I don't understand why Amazon does that. Does the extra little temporary bump in price make up for lost sales? It's very frustrating. I prefer to shop at Amazon, but just couldn't wait for the price to come back down to a competitive price.

Customer Review: Great investment - well worth the money!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I received my inversion table two months ago. The item was delivered (via Free Super Saver Shipping) 8 days after the order was placed. Item arrived in excellent condition (via UPS). No parts arrived broken. There were some minor nicks in the outer delivery box. My son & I put the unit together in about 45 minutes. Table is simple to assemble, instructions very clear. All parts were present on delivery. Unit is extremely sturdy. Assemble this item in a place where it can stay. It is quite heavy and does not easily fold up for storage. You'll probably mess up your back if you try moving it once assembled. When using the table, the majority of your weight is applied to the top of your foot at the ankle, so a well padded shoe tongue is a help.
I am 55 years old, 6'-4" tall and about 225 lbs. I have had back problems for the past 5 years. There seems to be plenty of headroom at a more vertical position. I would think the unit will work for someone as tall as 6'7" (the adjustment scale goes up to 6'-8" - see pictures above). I have to set my scale to 6'5" to better balance the table for my center of gravity.
My condition/experience:
I have had 2 previous lower back operations. Ruptured disk at L3-L4 and pinched nerve with sciatica down the right leg. The sciatica has been particularly bothersome for the past 6 months. I also had lower back pain and pain in the left hip. The first week I started inverting with socks and sneakers on, but after a few weeks my feet became used to the pressure. Now I am completely comfortable inverting in bare feet. For the first week, I was using the inversion table twice a day at about a 40 deg incline. The back felt a little better so I increased the incline to about 70 degrees for about 15 - 20 minutes twice a day. After the second week my back actually started getting sorer, so I went back to a 40 degree incline for 2-5 minutes at a time. I was doing this once or twice a day. This seems to be all that I need for my back. A quick decompression for a short time works the best for me. My back/hip/sciatica problems have been gradually improving over the past 2 months.
Don't get discouraged if you don't see immediate improvement. Be patient and don't overdo it at the beginning. The very first time I used it, I felt this great feeling of stress release on my back, although the actual pain didn't change much. I have also found the table more comfortable to use without the lumbar pad in place.
The table has been a great investment. It is a quality item well worth the money. I've placed some customer pictures of my unit above. Caution: Do not sneeze while inverted.

Customer Review: Really Helps
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have chronic lower back pain periodically. My major problem is age related disk shrinkage. Going to a chiropractor has made the issue bearable in the past, but offered no longer term fix. It was simply a "make-do." I looked at both the 4000 and the less expensive model and decided on the 4000 as the better value. It had the lumbar pillow that sold separately for about the difference between the two models. I felt that the memory foam on the backrest was nice, particularly since I viewed it as free. I am very happy with my choice. This is a really nice and well made product, and I have enjoyed significant improvements in my lower back issues as a result of using it. Assembly was easy but took about one hour with the supplied tools. Do not expect to simply fold it up and put it in a corner when not in use though. Folding it up for storage requires significant dissassembly. Since I use it almost daily and have the available space, I never plan to store it. I find the foot holders on the machine to be very secure and quite comfortable despite other reviews to the contrary. The height indicators on the adjustable foot holder bar were obviously marked for persons with different body profiles from my wife and I. We had to set them for an additional 2" of body height, but that was easy to do and easy to change between the two of us. Overall, I am exceptionally pleased with the product and its rapid payback vs. chiropractor visits.

Since I was new to inversion tables and no use instructions are provided, I would like to share the following comments. I believe that all of the following issues are related somewhat to my age (70) and/or the condition of my back when I started using the product. Some adaptation was required. Even though I did not rush into going fully vertical in early use, my back reacted somewhat unfavorably at first. This issue went away as I continued use. Even after nearly a month of use, I find going vertical to be more than I want or need. Going inclined causes your blood to go to your head and your nose to stop up. You get used to this and it appears to get better over time. When you go from inclined to normal, it helps to bend your knees. Whatever you do, do not rush to stand up after being inclined for several minuted.

I really believe this to be a great product and a great price on Amazon.

Customer Review: Great but don't follow the directions on height adjustment!!!!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I have lower back pain, L4 & L5 -plus pinched (tiny) sensory nerve. Needed help bad! After A LOT of research settled on this Ironman 4000! I'm a 57 yr old woman. Assembled this by myself- -"no problem" in less than an hour. Was extremely excited & couldn't wait to use it! I'm strict on following directions, so I did with this- adjust "to MY height" for optimum balance! WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! I measured myself to be sure of my height knowing I had been losing height the last few years. When I set the boom to the height for me (59" oy!) It was extremely hard to get on this table. I am overweight also. With "GREAT difficulty," I did get up on the foot rest- & went back. The pull on my arms and shoulders were tremendous! I've had shoulder (rotator cuff & AC joint surgery) so was highly concerned I was harming my shoulders and arms. It was "very uncomfortable!"
Immediately I wanted to get rid of this table!!! The next day my son-in-law came over and discovered that I needed to adjust the point of balance WHICH WAS NOT THE HEIGHT I AM- but 3 inches taller! So please do not follow the directions enclosed!
NOW, I LOVE IT! I can't begin to express the relief and the comfort it has given me in the last week! It is awesome! I first knew as a newbie to only invert to a horizontal position and stay that for at least a few to 5 minutes. I did this for the first couple of days (using twice a day) now I can go the full 90o AND raise my arms above my head- completely taking all strain off the arms. With the height adjusted taller there is very little strain on the arms and really none on my shoulders. Just some on the hands as I hold on. Going all the way back- there's NONE & I can feel the spine gently stretching out & it is THE BEST FEELING! I'm glad I didn't go on Craig's List right off the bat to get rid of this! It IS wonderful but adjust it to your preference not what they tell you in the directions!
