Description of Ironman Gravity 1000 Inversion TableThe IronmanŽ Endurance 100 inversion table is built with a strong steel frame and scratch-resistant powder-coated finish. It has a soft, foam-covered backrest for comfort when inverting, and extra-long safety handles provide easy return to the upright position. Whether you want to reduce back stress or fatigue or stimulate your blood circulation, the Ironman Gravity 1000 inversion table makes a great household accessory. The inversion table contributes to your body's overall health by optimizing lumbar traction, thereby relieving pressure on your vertebrae discs and ligaments. And when your back starts to relax, the rest of your body follows. The table can also help with such areas as increasing body flexibility for improved athletic performance, reducing the effects of aging due to gravity, and relieving lower backaches due to sitting or standing. The Gravity 1000 boasts a durable tubular steel frame with a scratch-resistant powder-coated finish. The backrest, meanwhile, is made of a tough nylon material that's extremely durable yet still comfortable when the table is in use. Most importantly, the inversion system is a breeze to use: once you rest your body against the nylon backrest and slip your feet into the ergonomically molded ankle cushions, simply reach your arms over your head. As your arms go up, your body gradually inverts up to 90 degrees. The only inputs are your energy and gravity itself. Users will also appreciate the tough rubber non-skid floor stabilizers, which keep the table stable while you invert, and the extra-long safety handles, which provide an easy return to an upright position. Other details include a height-adjustable frame up to 6 feet 6 inches; support for up to 300 pounds; vinyl safety side covers to protect hands and fingers; and a durable spring-loaded ankle locking system. The Gravity 1000, which folds into a compact footprint for easy storage, measures 25 by 62 by 49 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 46 pounds. Although not a doctor, I'm a "GymRat"/Health Nut/Personal Trainer and I swear by this device. I have to think, that doctors don't want you to buy this device or is an avoidance recommendation so they can make more money from you, by way of prescription pills.
Buy the cheapest brand/model! Any inversion table is great for your back! As long as you have an inversion table you're good. Any other expensive models on Amazon are to your taste only. I decided to write a review on this brand for no other reason, because I have an "old school" 80's model and it still works. Treat this as any other exercise, i.e. repetitions with sets. Your repetitions and/or sets will be the length of time you spend upside down in having gravity work for you in decompressing those discs and muscles.
The most important part in getting used to this to have your ankles get used to the pressure against it when upside down. Additional prevention of increasing your knee joint angle beyond 180 degrees will prevent any joint issues I've read in some of these reviews.
Start with three sets of 1minute, then 3 sets of 1 1/2 min, etc etc .. until you get at least 10 minutes. I'm at 10minutes on a slow day and up to 25minutes when I have time (usually Sundays)
Benefits:
It is truly amazing what decompression/"anti-gravity" does to your body, compressed discs and tight muscles. It relieves and appeases all strain in your body. Hang with your favorite relaxing CD/Yoga CD and you'll be truly blown away by the benefits. Some days when I didn't even want to move out of my bed with excruciating back pain, I was able to have a pain-free day for the WHOLE DAY. You gotta remember, I laid there in pain for a few days out of laziness, eventhough I had this device in my patio. I finally decided to do my sets and "PAINFREE!" The point is, if you can get over the excruciating pain that will probably and ironically prevent you from using the inversion table, you will benefit. This device will save your wallet on Chiropractor/M.D. visits. Some days of my long runs, my ribs start aching. Instead of medicating myself as probably a doctor would prescribe, I just do my sets of decompression and I swear "I'm Brand New" again! By chance, I've realized and figured out that it was caused by the jarring weight of my upperbody adding constant pressure against the ribs by way of gravity on these long runs.
For those fellow Gym Rats, combine this device while doing hyperextensions to strengthen your back to reduce pain and increase strength to your lower back in addition to your favorite yoga class. After my extreme heavy squats, I could feel a major discomfort in my hips that prevented from me walking comfortably. I could see how people lose their hips this way after prolonged extreme squat workouts. After a prolonged three sets of decompression, again I'm ANEW, if you will. Bear in mind, that I had been feeling hip pain/discomfort for a week because, by chance, I've been lazy about using my table that week. This has done miracles for my occasional shoulder/rotator cuff pain as well. The importance is to be relaxed as hell when upside down, so buy the best relaxation stress-relief CD/MP3 out there.
After three sets of prolonged decompression after an extreme squat workout/extreme pain, I actually felt the decompressing pain of the body rebalancing itself. So yes.. you will slightly "feel the pain" of the device working for you... NOT against you. I had to tell you that so you knew what to expect. But after that, you feel you're ready to "cheesily" attack the day again. With regular use of this device, you'll have the same perspective as that guy on that infomercial.. No Bull***t. JUST DOES MIRACLES!! I think I saw a recent informercial on that lower back device with a rotating "T" device. GET AN INVERSION TABLE INSTEAD. Your whole bodyweight is working to decompress you by way of gravity!
Customer Review: Best Inverter Table for the Money Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Having purchase both the Teeter Hangup (one of the most popular inverters) and this Ironman, I will try to make a comparison.
I purchased the Teeter Hangup table for my personal use. Very satisfied except that the leg clamps at the bottom are not nearly as comfortable as the Ironman. I am 6'4" and weigh 220, so that may be an issue. My wife does not have any discomfort at all.
My daughter and her husband really liked the benefits of inversion after using our Teeter (they find no discomfort either). But because of the leg clamp issue I researched other alternatives.
As a result we purchased this Ironman for them as a gift and it is a LOT more comfortable for me at the ankles and feet than the Teeter type leg clamps. Otherwise, the construction is equivalent in quality.
Other differences to consider:
Teeter allows the table to move further from your back when fully inverted. This allows more freedom to do more exercises without bumping the back.
Another thing you may want to consider is the ease of folding and moving to another place or for storage. The Teeter is easier, as the Ironman requires a wrench; the teeter does not.
The last difference to consider is that the foot rest on the Teeter is easier to adjust, an issue if more than one person uses it and they are significantly different in height and/or weight. The Ironman requires a wrench, the Teeter does not. It is more an issue for the Teeter because the leg clamps are not as comfortable as the Ironman, as I stated earlier, and both need to be adjusted for a proper and comfortable fit.
All in all, if I would have to do it again, I would buy the Ironman for myself. It was about $180 cheaper at the time. You could buy two Ironman Inverters for the price of a Teeter! The slight inconveniences of the Ironman over the Teeter would not warrant this price difference to me, because the leg clamps of the Ironman are significantly more comfortable.
As for the health benefits here, I do not think they are overstated. After a long day on my feet, or just exercising, it literally makes me feel like new. I feel "decompressed," and have more bounce in my joints. I feel more flexible. It allows me to recover from an activity faster.
My daughter, who trains for marathons, says that after a long training run, she feels so much better after inverting, recovers faster, and does not have any back or joint issues like she did before. She just ran the Pittsburgh Marathon, and the first thing she did when she got home was to "hang." She claims immediate relief and faster recovery time.
So no matter which inverter you get, it is an easy way (5-10 min) to feel sooooo much better. I can't recommend this activity more highly.
Customer Review: Excellent Product - No Negatives! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
The Ironman Inversion Table was no more difficult to assemble than any other "some assembly required" products we have purchased recently. In fact, all of the difficult parts came pre-assembled. I agree with the others who indicated about 45 minutes to assemble.
The height adjustment is very fast and simple to operate. As it turns out this is very important. My wife is 5'-5" and I am 5'-11". We need to be able to quickly adjust the table and have been pleasantly surprised that there is only the one easy adjustment to make. This table has a very comfortable "bed" to lean back on, and we both like the padded front and rear ankle supports. We have decided that it is more comfortable and relaxing to wear tennis shoes especially if we are going to "hang" for more than a couple of minutes but the supports work well just wearing socks if that is your preference.
That brings up another pleasant surprise, there is no need to hang up for more than a minute or so to immediately feel more comfortable and relaxed. I used to try and lay on the floor to work the kinks out of my back, and my wife has trouble with her neck. She tried chiropractors with little or no benefit. They were certainly not worth what they charged! I have no interest in paying someone to "manipulate" my spine. This is by far the most beneficial and convenient piece of equipment we have purchased. Any time, and wearing just about anything, we can adjust the height, step on, and quickly erase tension and stress. The Ironman Inversion Table fits easily into our busy lifestyle.
This comment is in response to the reviewer who has to do a full sit-up to return upright. If that happens, you have the height adjustment set too short. Please adjust the height so that you are neutral. Standing on the table, all you should have to do is slowly raise your arms and lean back to invert. Then to return upright, move your arms back towards your waist and the table should effortlessly stand you back up. You may need to set the height an inch or so taller or shorter than your actual height if your body mass is not average. Big shoulders = Taller Setting. Big Butt = Shorter Setting. Sorry about that, but that is how it works.
The Ironman Inversion Table is awesome for doing perfect AB crunches. Hook the strap to stop at about 45 degrees, and set the height one inch shorter than normal. I find it almost impossible to do a crunch wrong when I am inverted at 45 degrees. When finished, a slight tug on the handles is enough to pull the table upright.
You could spend twice as much money and not get a better inversion table.
Customer Review: Love my Inversion Table! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I have had on and off issues with my lower back, but it bothered me enough that I went to a spine specialist. He said that he thought that it was a possible slipped disk and recommended Physical Therapy. I went through physical therapy a year ago for tight muscles and pain in my upper back/shoulders and felt that it helped (though costly and a huge time commitment), but I was told my family and friends that they didn't think that PT would be as helpful for a slipped disk. Plus I was already physically active and was doing all the exercises already, including yoga and pilates. Much of which the PT teaches you.
I read that decompression therapy was supposed to be very helpful for slipped disks, but the chiropractors I went to that had the decompression machine charged extra for the use of the machine. It was going to be very costly even with insurance coverage and with my husband working part time in a bad economy, I was very resistant to go that route... but had to do something!
That is when I did further research on inversion tables. I told me husband that it was worth a shot after reading about inversion and all the reviews and that if it didn't work the worst that could happen is that we would have to take it apart and send it back. For $140 and free shipping it was worth a shot! Plus my husband has compression in his lower back that he issues with and was intrigued the more info I passed on it him.
After a week, the pain going down my leg is gone. I am a believer!!! Each day that I used it I felt a little bit better and the back pain is just about gone. I am now using it 3 times a day for about 15 minutes a session. I am so thrilled about it and tell everyone I meet what a miracle it is. I have had all my friends try it out when they come to my house.
The product is made well and is very sturdy. I am still trying to figure out how to make the ankle holds more comfortable, though it's a small price to pay to be back pain free. I use a memory foam pillow for under my head. It's low tech and it works. Will save me hundreds on other alternative treatment for pain relief and I am happy that I don't have take so many pain relievers.
It's worth a try and you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. wish the doctors would tell more people about this low cost way to get pain free.
Customer Review: Solid equipment, is everything it claims to be Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I am very pleased with everything associated with the Ironman Gravity 1000. First Amazon was the seller and they exceeded my delivery expectations I ordered with super saver shipping on a Thursday and received it on the next Tuesday. The box is bulky so either have help or a hand truck/dolley to move it into your home. I was able to set up the unit myself in about 30-40 minutes I do consider myself handy with tools and construction. I am 6'3" and 265 lbs the unit supports my size and weight very well it seems very sturdy. As mentioned in other reviews folding the unit to store is basically useless the unit is bulky and awkward when folded. I leave the unit set up all the time against one wall.
Also mentioned in many reviews is discomfort from the ankle suppports, I have not found this to be a problem, certainly having my feet support 265 lbs hanging upside down is not the most comfortable thing but I find the padding sufficient I don't even always wear sneakers I have gone with socks or barefoot and been comfortable. I have come to realize I don't like being fully inverted but I use the strap to limit the inversion to about 90% and that seems very comfortable.
I have had back issues for about 25 years and find this does help. My hip tends to go out of alignment which over time and mismanagment leads to a bulging disc and when I feel that pain or pressure developing I just hang on this for 3 - 5 minutes and it goes away. I tend to use this 2 to 3 times a day. My wife uses this as well, though not as often as I do she is 5'4" and light as a feather, she has 2 discs bulging due to injury 1 in her lower back 1 in her neck. She finds some relief when using this but it is not a miracle cure she still continues her chiropractic treatments bi-weekly.
If you have realistic expectations of what an inversion table can do, you are wanting to stay within a reasonable budget and are looking to use this for stretching and not exercise then this is the unit for you.
