Description of Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar

Iron Gym is the multi function training bar that combines every exercise you need to build a powerful upper body. Its the ultimate body sculpting and strength building tool that helps shape the upper body and tones your midsection. The durable steel construction holds up to 300 lbs. It is designed to fit residential doorways 24" to 32" wide with doorway trim or molding up to 3 ½ inches wide.
Strengthen your back, biceps, and other upper body muscles in the comfort of your living room or dorm with the Iron Gym workout bar. Designed to fit conveniently in most doorway frames or sit on the floor for pushups, dips, and sit-ups, the Iron Gym is an ideal choice for people who want to get fit without buying expensive, space-intensive weight sets. When installed in the doorway, the device lets you perform pull-ups and chin-ups, with three grip positions--narrow, neutral, and wide--for working the inner and outer back. Once you're done with your back workout, you can quickly move the Iron Gym to the floor, where you can perform pushups while facing down, tricep dips while facing the other way, or sit-ups using the Iron Gym for foot stability.

The Iron Gym--whose durable steel frame installs quickly without tools or fasteners--holds up to 300 pounds and is designed to fit residential doorways 24 to 32 inches wide, with doorway trim or molding up to 3.5 inches wide.

Sports reviews of Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar

Customer Review: Great chin-up bar
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The Iron Gym is a great chin-up bar; it works exactly as advertised. It is very easy to assemble, use, and attach and remove from a doorway. It seems extremely stable, and I have no problem believing it could support the claimed 300 lbs.
Some things to keep in mind:

As other reviewers have mentioned, it sits a little too low to be effective for dips, but putting your feet on a low stool helps with that problem.

Apparently (according to the ad copy) the ab straps are now included in the box--they were not included when I ordered mine from Amazon, and shipping is an additional eight dollars for the straps. Bummer.

Assembly is pretty straightforward, but you want to make sure everything is tightened down, or the bar will feel unsteady, especially when used for push-ups and dips. But be careful not to over-tighten the bolts that go through the plastic brace--it looks like it would be fairly easy to 'strip' the unreinforced square bolt holes in the plastic brace.

When assembled, the total cross bar length is just a hair under 37" wide. In addition, a plainly visible metal safety clip has to be installed (by hand, no screws required) between the top of the door frame and the wall. Just a couple of things to consider before choosing location.

Finally, at the time of this review, the Iron Gym is available for the same price at Linens-n-Things. If you have one locally, you could save yourself shipping since Super Saver shipping is not offered for this product.

Customer Review: Terrific Product
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

First off, let me say I'm extremely pleased with the results I've seen from using this product. You can get a terrific upper body workout in under 30 minutes with this, and you'll see results in just a couple weeks.

It's great for pull ups, dips and pushups. You get the full upper body workout, there are three different grips for the pullups so you get a nice universal workout of all your muscles. Does no damage to the door frame, requires no nails or holes in your wall. Great for pushups as well, regular and wide grip. Some people have said they haven't had much success using this for dips but I strongly disagree. If you use it right and sit far enough back it's perfect. You really feel the burn in your triceps. Make sure to keep your arms parallel to the handles on the iron gym to get the best workout.

The only thing I didn't really think was great was the situps. The iron gym is really of no help, it's the same as using no aid. Still, I strongly recommend this product to anyone looking for something like this. It doesn't take long at all to get a great workout, it's only 30 bucks (well worth it), it won't damage your door frame or wall, it's sturdy when you're hanging on it doing pullups, it's relatively small and easy to store under a bed or just on the door frame if it's a door you don't close. You won't regret this purchase.

Customer Review: You HAVE to do Pull-Ups if you want to be strong, sexy, and stable
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Pull-Ups are a MUST to a strong, sexy, and stable body. They are the best exercises for your upper body strength, especially your back, lats, and biceps.

There are so many variations of pull-ups you can do, from chin ups to pull-ups, from narrow grip to wide grip, and from middle to side.

If you live near a park, just use those natural hanging surfaces to do your pull-ups. If you don't have access to anything sturdy that you can hang onto, then invest in a pull-up bar.

Go to a fitness store and test out the different brands of pull-ups. See which one works for you, and buy that one.

If you don't feel the burn after 10 repetitions, you are doing the exercise wrong. In all exercises, it is the eccentric portion of the exercise that builds muscle. Do the exercise in a smooth, controlled fashion with a 3 concentric and 6 eccentric count. Squeeze at the peak of the motion to get that extra pump.

As in all exercises, make sure to keep your wrists straight and check your posture with these seven vital points: feet hips-width apart and pointed straight ahead; knees slightly bent; pelvis at perfect middle, as if you are sitting at a bar stool; stomach tight, but not flexed; chest straight and aligned on top of ribs; shoulders parallel to ribs; and neck straight on top of body.

Customer Review: Works as Intended - Very Pleased
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

First, I'm a small guy so this bar handles my weight without flinching. A heavier person,
say above 200 lbs might notice a little flex on the bar or creaking of the door frame which
should be expected. So here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
*Good price.
*The workout bar was easily assembled.
*My doorway is about 30" and sits in a corner, and the bar
still fits with no problems.
*The bar feels sturdy.
*The padding is pretty decent.
*Allows a few different hand positions.
*Easy to remove and install (literally a few seconds)
*Fun to use (I use mine daily)

Cons:
*The plastic bar that rests above the door frame is bowed, but it
doesn't seem to affect its function.
*Doesn't come with arm straps (You have to buy them separately)
*Not stored or put away easily (mine sits propped in the corner)
*Could leave light scuffs on your door frame, possibly damage depending
on your weight and the type of door frame you have.
*Slept with it under my pillow, didn't make me "ripped" as promised.
*Attracts UFOs

Most of the cons I listed really aren't much of a problem for me. So I would
say I'm pretty happy with the product and would recommend it.

Customer Review: Works great for what it is
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I am 6' about 220. This supports me perfectly and is exactly what I was looking for. One thing that disappointed me, but did not affect the review since it was never listed, was the fact that there was mention of free ab straps. The "free" part comes in the form of a mail away card and including $7.99 for shipping and handling... so, not really free and definately not included. Aside from the gimmick involved there, the product is perfect.

I noticed a little flex when I would use it, but it states it can support up to 300lbs and I felt perfectly comfortable using it. The foam padding is soft and comfortable. The construction seems fairly strong. It's 4 bolts. I would recommend they take a look at their hardware and possibly upgrade. There are caps that fit on the end of each bolt. One of my caps broke off, but that did not hinder me putting it together. I would still give it a rating above 4 stars because it's cheap and efficient.

You can't see it from the pictures well, but the main bar is actually two pieces that fit together. I don't know if that makes any differences to those looking to purchase, but figures it can't hurt to mention it! Curious about the ab straps, but havn't decided if 7.99 is worth it. Would love a comment to my review if you have used them for this product.
