My kids had these when they were little. Pump up, then throughout the summer as it begins to deflate, just don't refill. Eventually, as the air runs out, they are swimming and don't even realize it.

This is perfect for the pool! It has given my 18 month old tons of confidence! She did tip a bit when she started, but quickly learned to balance herself.

Wonderful product....fits my child perfectly and now he's not afraid to be in the water.
Customer Review: Great product Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
I've tried several swim trainers with the goal mostly to find something that will make my toddler a bit more independent in the water. I finally ordered this one after a few false starts with other products. It was easy to inflate with a bicycle pump and fit my 2 1/2 year old daughter well (however I can see how this may be tight on an older/bigger child). Once she got into the pool, the tendency was indeed to flip onto her face, but she (and I) soon figured out that it's all about learning balance in the water. Initially I held her hand or the tube as she got used to it, but by the end of the pool day she was floating on her own. I would not recommend to leave your child alone in this (or any other trainer unless they can swim), however it will certainly buy you a few extra seconds if they fall into the pool. It does provide some independence and I can see that over time she (and I) will become more confident which will mean that I will not constantly have to hold her in my arms.
The strap is a bit too short I think and does cause a wedgie as other reviewers stated. She is still wearing a swim diaper, so it seemed not to bother her that much, but I think it will bother her over time. I like the concept of the strap and may just lengthen it by sewing an extra piece onto it. Alternatively once she gets a bit bigger, I can probably go without the strap.
The product itself seems to be of good quality and I think it will last several seasons/children. I recommend this product.
Customer Review: Swimline Trainer Tube Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
I think that this is a great item; however, if your child is not big enough to swim somewhat or at least kick and move his hands, do not let them go, because the tube will flip him forward. My son is a little young, 18 months, and it is great, because we don't have to be constantly worried about him in the pool, or constantly holding him; however, we do still have to at least hold his hands to keep him from turning face first. It is much easier still, though.
