Sports reviews of InStep Suburban Swivel Wheel Jogging StrollerCustomer Review: AWFUL PRODUCT!! must not have been baby tested Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
After 5 minutes with this stroller I realized what I need... and what it's missing. It makes me wonder if they even gave this to parents to test. After a month of having this stroller I hate it. My baby looks so uncomfortable in it!! It has no padding. The sides of the stroller where her head could rest is a hard metal bump! DO NOT BUY THIS STROLLER> I tried to change the number of stars I gave it but AMAZON won't let me! It's awful!!
Cons:
No viewer in the "shade" to see baby while you're running. I had to run to the side of the stroller several times to check on her. - To fix this I cut a hole in the top where i wanted it and afixed a clear vinyl from a craft store with some adhesive velcro. Problem solved.
The "shade" itself was worthless. Instep has made much better in the past to keep sun out, now they just want you to buy the bigger one seperate. Which I did and it's massive!
No tether
Does not recline very far- strollers that recline all the way double for changing tables for me!! This is a great feature if you can find a stroller that does this. This one does not and I can't think of any way to modify this!
Underbasket won't hold big 15 items... for the 15 items or less trip to the grocery store. My graco did.
Seat back is not very padded, baby looks uncomforable. I'm going to jimmy rig some kind of padding for her little sleepy head. I ended up buying a snugli thing that fits in 5 point harness strollers. But now she's too big for that !! once again, i hate my stroller.
The seat does not lock in position so kiddos lean forward and rock the stroller during a temper tantrum.
No padding on the sides... so she can't kick-it to the side and nap like in her Graco.
The bug net is poor quality and doesn't fit snuggly over the stroller like you'd think. My baby just likes to grab at it and put it in her mouth. I Trashed it!
Button for locking and unlocking swivel wheel is right above the wheel... not on the handle bars like some strollers offer so you can't easily adjust for changing terains (Baby Trend has the feature on the handle bar) Plus, my wheel would stick when I put it in swivel mode. A little WD40 fixed that right up!
There should be a pocket on the back of the seat for storage.
Pros:
2 cup holders for mom and dad!
Very light for a jogging stroller. I litterally folded it with one hand and picked it up and put it in my SUV without having to bend over. Great design there.
Plus it automatically locks when you fold it which saves you from the flip open problem most jogging strollers have. Which is also great for airplane travel when checking the stroller plane side.
Simple touch maneuverability when the wheel is fixed and on swivel (once I lubed it). Narrow/high handle bar allows great control. (I'm 5'2" and was very comfortable jogging and controlling my dog)
Customer Review: Suburban Safari swivel wheel stroller Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
I wanted a jogging/all terrain stroller for my (at the time) 18 month old son, and i did lots of research on the less expensive yet functional strollers. my decision came down to the baby trend expedition (retails for around $130) and this one. the baby trend has large back wheels and it reclines fully, and this stroller has same size wheels and it DOES NOT recline flat. i decided on buying this one because my son does not sleep in stroller anyways, he's too busy exploring the world. the safari was easy to put together, it has lots of great features but nothing over the top. comfortable padding, nice neutral colors, the trigger mechanism workks great when i fold the stroller, the child tray fits all his sippy cups, my parent organizer is roomy enough for keys, cell phone, ipod and a couple other things, plus the bottle holders are not to shallow so far. the swivel wheel locks into place by another trigger-like mechanism so you can jog on a straight surface without having to put extra effort in controlling the wheel. the basket under seat is large enough for a box of diapers (72 huggies, anyone?), your diaper bag and maybe another grocery bag, so its plenty.
PROS: easy to assemble, effortless maneuver, large basket, simple to fold, stays folded, compfortable for child, sturdy steel construction but yet it IS lightweight. (im a petite mom and i carry this to up and down flights of stairs daily!), wheel can be locked, nice parent tray, not too bulky. baby and i have taken several bus trips with this stroller!
CONS: no tether ( i dont need one anyways), canopy IS a bit small, i bought the ray shade canopy as well to protect child from the sun, the seat does not recline fully, only about 3/4 of the way (which is plenty for my toddler to rest, he looks very comfortable in it),I HATE the reclining thing they have, its 2 strings, and you pull them towards yourself, and then slide a locking thing up to where you want the back of the seat to be. does give lots of angles to recline, but it's a royal pain. i prefer the click into place backrest recliners regular strollers have, but jogging strollers want to be more sporty, so they feature the annoying drawstring instead. the stroller does not stand on its own when folded (but it stays closed) also the front wheel wobbled after about 1 week of running, but its easy to fix and now it is smooth as butter again. also, the padding/seat is not removeable for wash unless you are willing to deal with screws and nuts and bolts (i was!)
overall, great stroller, worth buying. rides smoothly and so far no problems anywhere. our son loves it, so we love it too!
Customer Review: Thrilled So Far! Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
This stroller just arrived the other day and I am thrilled with it's performance so far. My hefty 8 month old fits well with lots of room to spare in the seat and adjustable 5-point harness. The height of the handle bar is much higher than our cheap stroller we bought, making its use very comfortable. I like the parent and child trays and the swivel front wheel makes for a rather smooth ride on sidewalk. I am not a jogger and plan to use it mostly around the neighborhood streets/ sidewalks or indoors at the mall. I like the adjustable seat and the ability to lift the rear hood for ventilation if necessary. I also like the location of the front wheel, being under the footrest instead of sticking way out front like on some models. It was very easy to put together, although the directions provided were slightly different than my stroller... some of the assembly was already done for me.
Keep in mind that this stroller is a more economic model and does not have lots of bells and whistles. It does not fold up with one hand and seems a little awkward to lift into my trunk. It does not stand up independently when folded.
Finally, I was amazed at the speed with which I received this product from Amazon. I was anticipating another week before delivery, but had it on my doorstep within 48 hours!
Customer Review: Easy assembly, easy ride Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
This was a breeze to assemble- a rarity among baby/kid products these days! Unfold, snap on the tires, tighten, snap on the parent and snack trays, and you're good to go. Very nice. Folds down and opens with ease. Smooth ride and handles well. Harness is easy to use and seat adjusts nicely. Sun shade is adequate, but wish is was positionable and had a viewing window. For the money, this is a great stroller for my purposes- long walks around our neighborhood which has bumpy roads and no sidewalks or on the nearby gravel trail along the river. I do not jog with the stroller, so can't comment on its usefulness for that purpose.
We previously had a Jeep Liberty stroller and it was inferior in a few ways. Assembly was ridiculous, with what seemed like a million little pieces. The Jeep seemed both heavier and more awkward to open/close, and did not maneuver as smoothly. The seatback was of similar construction to the InStep (adjusts up/down w/ drawstring), but the seat fabric on the Jeep felt much more thin/flimsy and did not clean up well.
I'd buy the InStep again, no question.
Customer Review: Better than BabyTrend Expedition Sport shop rating: 4 Stars
I orginally purchased the Baby Trend Expedition jogging stroller and was terribly disappointed with it. The front swivel wheel wobbled uncontrollably when it was not in the locked position, making it impossible to push the stroller. Thankfully I had purchased a Buyer Protection plan for it and was able to get a full refund. So my next stroller was the InStep Suburban Swivel jogging stroller. Upon assembly the swivel wheel was so tight that it would not swivel! But a little WD-40 solved the problem and now it works fine. The handle is a little high for me (I'm 5'3"). The tray in front of the seat pulls completely out, but I would prefer it to swing open instead. Other than that I like the stroller. I think it's a good value, especially since I can't afford a more expensive stroller. They sell an infant car seat adapter but my Graco infant seat fits without an adapter. It just snaps onto the stroller tray.
