The Illuminator is self Powered Light/Radio/Cell Charger utilizes a crank which is folded against the back of the light for power. Turning the crank charges a set of small internal rechargeable cells which then provide power to the rest of the built-in systems. The lighting portion of this device consists of three 5mm LEDs behind focusing lenses. However, there is also an FM radio and a siren. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a charger to travel with, I would recommend something else for an emergency kit.
Also don't pay any mind to some of the reviews that say the item was damaged when it showed up. That's the suppliers fault, not the items fault.
I have had this system for about two and a half months and so far it has suited my needs. I've used it mainly as a flashlight and charger. The unit will keep a charge, but it's storage can't be used for longer than maybe 10-15 minutes using the 3 LED lights, which I thought was odd, and the one LED light will last a bit longer, but I would only use when I was in my tent or room to find something real quick.
The LED's are bright in the 3 LED mode and it's obviously weaker with just the one LED. This system wasn't set up for a lengthy period of usage. The 3 LED's will only stay lit for 10-15 minutes and the single LED would stay on about double that length, but again it wasn't of much use beyond illuminating something within 6-8 feet.
The charger I would use to plug into a rechargeable battery charger which could also be used to charge items via USB. Although it would take a LONG time to charge up a phone, I would say it's better than nothing. I used it to charge up my iPhone and roughly 15 minutes of cranking gave me 20% more battery life.

A crank flashlight that will do the job for getting you to "the john" on a camping trip. You can listen to the radio a bit and if you feel compelled to scare anything or anybody you can flip on the alarm. But, don't bother purchasing this to charge your Nokia phone. To charge a phone you will crank until your arm falls off and still not have much power.
It's "acceptable."

This flashlight works ok, but there are better ones out there for about the same price. After cranking for a minute you'll get some light, but the battery doesn't hold a charge very long. Good enough to store away for an emergency but I wouldn't want to have to rely on it very often.Customer Review: Not worth it.

This product is not so great. I bought it for my mom for Christmas since she had been wanting one and it worked, but you have to do a lot of cranking to get it to hold a charge for even just 20 seconds. The little adaptor things for phones are really confusing, even for someone who is good with electronics. There are much better products out there that hold a better charge and are less of a pain to figure out. I got myself the two pack of "Duracell Crank Light 3 in 1, 3 LED Flashlight, Radio, Charger" from Costco and it is awesome. If you only want this for the crank feature, it's an ok product (if you're okay with also using it for your daily workout), but if you want to use the other features (which you probably do if you're looking at a combo one) then you should get a different one. The flashlight/radio/alarm is a good idea but there are a few things that this one lacks. The light is not very bright and the flashlight control does not lock into the off/one light/three light positions very efficiently. I found that I thought the light was off but it was still on. Also, the cell phone charging feature which could be very helpful, does not work with usb connectors.
