These have a very "solid" feel. That is to say, they feel rather heavy in the hand, and when put on, you pretty much know right away that they're not coming off without help. If you're testing these on yourself, make sure the keyholes are facing your hands, or you'll have a really difficult time getting the key in the hole.
The safest thing to do with something like this when you first get them is to try out the keys, and make sure they work. (You certainly don't want to discover they don't after they're on!) I found that the key needed a good deal of force to get into the hole, but after a few times, it's working fine.
If you're into BDSM, this is a solid purchase, your partner will love them. There's no chance of slipping them off without the key. If you're testing these out on yourself, I again recommend that you put them on with the keyhole facing your hand. I forgot to do that the first time, and had a real tough time getting the key in.
Don't handcuff yourself to anything with these unless you have someone else in the room with you. You certainly don't want to have to call out for help, and then have to explain yourself. And in case you were thinking about it, there's no chance of getting these on your ankles.
In summary, test the keys before you put them on, and USE RESPONSIBLY.
