This is a godsend when you have to be outside in the cold. The exothermic reaction that starts once the plastic wrapping is opened lasts for hours and does keep whatever pocket or glove the small packet is inserted in nice and warm. I use them when I ride my bike on really cold days - using full-fingered cold weather cycling gloves doesn't keep out the biting cold after a few hours in 30-40 degree riding, but by palming one of these warmers in each hand before putting on the glove I ensure a warmth that goes to the fingertips.
I have also used them when outdoors taking landscape photographs on cold days - this time just stuffing them in my pockets and putting my hands in my pockets as they get chilled. Since gloves are rather cumbersome when handling camera gear, this is a great solution.

These packets are really good! Open one up in sub zero weather, shake it, and it warms up for 18 hours! You can put a few in your auto for emergencies, house in case the heat goes off, take some camping, hiking, anywhere! Rip the packet open, shake it and within 15-30 minutes you have instant heat for 18 hours! Just keep it dry and you have heat!
A basic chemical reaction (iron powder, charcoal, vermiculate) inside a small packet reacts when oxygen (air) comes in contact with the packet when you open the outer packet.
These are really good to use anywhere! It's what they used at the 2008 NFL Giants VS Packers game to help keep warm!

I purchased these for a friend of mine in the Army that is stationed in Afghanistan, where it can get quite cold, and figured that they were perfect size to fit in any pocket or even in a sleeping bag ect. They are still in transit (can update later) but i kept a few for myself to try out. They work great, i used them when i was out hanging up christmas lights in the cold. Placed one in each front pocket of my jeans and they provided some much needed warmth. they do take a little while to warm up,it is not instantly hot, so keep that in mind. hopefully they will be a help to my friend as well. overall i am happy with these.Customer Review: What a Life saver!

I purchased these with the back wrap for chronic back pain I was having with the intent of having something that would stay warm and would be portable so I could go out into the cold without my back getting chilled. It gives out the perfect temperature to keep on long term - in fact I've used this overnight with the back wrap with no problem. It's not too hot that you would burn yourself for extended periods. I also use the wrap with heaters for overnight castor oil (packs). My first use the pack was still heating full throttle at about 40 hrs. which I guess is NOT the norm, but nevertheless pretty neat.Customer Review: Really nice and you can turn them off.

I have used these for years and have learned that once you are inside and do not need the heat anymore you can place them in a zip lock bag, squeeze out the air, and Wallah, they do not heat up until you re-open the bag.
I had a foot injury that had me wearing a walking boot through a cold winter. I would wear one of these in the boot near my toes whenever I went outside. They saved my toes from frostbite more than once. I love them. My daughter uses them riding the bus for those extra cold days too.
They are well worth the cost.
