I have just purchased these bandannas and am quite satisfied. It is very hot where I live and I am prone to Migraines. Cooling my neck really helps and a cooling bandanna is more socially acceptable than walking around with an ice-bag atop my head. However, a word of caution: When you first soak these things for the prescribed twenty minutes, you are left with a brightly printed dripping slimy slug. I advise gently patting your bandanna slug surface dry with a towel before you try it on or you will drip water all over your clothes. In fact, the only reason I did not give this product four stars was the initial drippy slimy swollen sea slug appearance.
In terms of cleaning, I've found that if you rotate your bandannas so that they can dry out between uses, you can better launder them. What works for me, is a more or less dry bandanna and then a quick wash in the sink with cold water, Woolite and a brush. Don't worry about the beads, just scour the cloth - especially if you sweat. If you think your bandannas are truly stinky, scour in some baking soda. Just do it quickly. The object is NOT to let the beads start swelling on soapy water.
In terms of drying, sunshine works best. A dose of sunshine even between washings seems to cut down on any "sweaty" odor.

After dropping $40 on one of those Sharper Image Personal Cooling Systems and finding out that I would have been just as well off putting my money directly in a trash can, I stumbled upon these. They work very well and stay cool for several hours and stay wet for days. If it gets too warm, just pop it in the fridge for 10 minutes and you're good for a few more hours. Soak these in water and place in the refrigerator until you are ready for them. They work great for visiting theme parks and other outdoor activities. When you are done, rinse thoroughly to remove sweat, and let them air dry. It takes 2 to 3 days for them to dry completely. Then you can store them until needed again. I would not put them in the washer and dryer.
