These tree straps are convenient, if you need to use to small trees. They're not even necessary for hanging a hammock, but what they're supposed to do is distribute the stress over the entire strap, thus decreasing the pressure applied to the tree. In essence, they're mostly to save the tree, not so much to make hanging easier.
I do wish they were a little longer, and they're not exactly a complicated device; they're little more than simple webbing folded over small rope and sewn down. I suppose I could have made my own, had I known how basic they were. Still, having the extra couple feet they add does come in handy from time to time.

I do love these tree straps so you can easily set-up your hammock. The only problem is that if your hammock is just a metal circle ring and the end of these straps is also a circle you have to go out to your handy hardware store to find a carabiner to connect the two ends together.Customer Review: hammock tree straps

I love this item! It is super easy to put up a hammock with this and doesn't damage the trees at all...most of all, it makes my hammock portable for when I am camping or going to a retreat of some sort. Durable and shipped quickly.
