Description of Halt! Dog Repellent 1.5 ozWho knows more about dog attacks than the mailman? Letter carriers have had to deal with aggressive dogs since Claudius Polonius was delivering rolls of parchment to citizens of the Roman Empire. So what do the experts use to repel dog attacks? Well, the U.S. Postal Service has been using Halt! Since 1966. You might say they have been conducting field tests for over thirty years. Halt! Products use Capsaicin, a naturally occurring extract of peppers, which, when sprayed in a dog's face, causes only temporary, but extreme discomfort for the dog.Think of it as attitude re-adjustment. Halt! Stops him in his tracks, giving you time to move out of danger. Halt!'s pressurized spray is accurate up to 10 feet.
Sports reviews of Halt! Dog Repellent 1.5 ozCustomer Review: Fast Acting! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
PERSONAL ACCOUNT: I live in a rural area where I take my black labrador for evening walks. We often encounter loose or stray dogs eager to challenge us. My only defense had been to pull on my dog's leash, yell at canine attackers to go away and hope for the best. Last week I took along a can of HALT. Within minutes of leaving the house 2 large aggressive dogs came charging toward us as we rounded a corner. I whipped out the spray and delivered a dose to the lead attacker, who instantly stopped in his tracks. He and his buddy hurriedly left the scene!
CONVENIENCE FACTOR: It's easy to carry the can in a coat pocket or clip it to your jeans. The trigger is well designed to make it easy to aim in a hurry. The small can fits easily in your hand if you wish to keep it handy on your walks. I was carrying it my coat pocket during the time of the attack and was able to retrieve it quickly. NOTE: I've added 2 customer images showing how well the can fits in your hand.
EFFECTIVENESS: The repellent stopped the charging lead attacker within a distance of 5 feet. The dog did not yelp or appear to be in any discomfort, but his aggressive intentions were instantly thwarted. He and his companion have not bothered us since that evening. I highly recommend this dog repellent.
Customer Review: Halt has saved the day several times Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this product for those who wish to have some peace of mind while walking their dogs. Since buying it several years ago, I have used it three times on unleashed dogs that threatened me and/or my greyhounds while we were walking. Just two days ago, two unleashed, unsupervised dogs ran aggressively towards me and the two greys I was walking. I sprayed the Halt! at the first one, and while the stream did not seem to make direct facial contact, the dog was obviously taken aback, as it immediately stopped running at us and turned around. I then sprayed at the second dog, and that time, the stream definitely made facial contact. The dog did not yelp or seem to be in pain, it just turned around and left quickly. To me, having the Halt! spray made all the difference between just being shaken up and having someone get bitten, because, prior to being sprayed, those dogs clearly had every intention of engaging in aggressive behavior towards us. As a dog lover, I really like the fact that the spray does not seem to harm the dog or cause a great deal of discomfort, but just makes it stop and reexamine whether it wants to continue what it is doing.
Customer Review: It works. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I bought this stuff because I walk outside everyday for exercise in my quest to stay young and healthy. Unfortunately, my neighborhood is just filled with dogs that either don't mind their owners OR are allowed to run free. After being chased one too many times, I decided to take some action and buy some dog repellant- hence this product, Halt.
Well, I have to say that after field-testing this product at least 10 times or so, it works. Now I have to say that it does affect some dogs differently. I expected the stuff to stop 'em dead in their tracks, and for some dogs it does- cold. They start sneezing and twirl their heads around and forget all about chasing you. However, some don't seem to feel the effects as much, but rather are totally scared by the spraying action and so they too stop and back off. In the final analysis, the stuff works one way or another. Readers trying to stay in shape by walking regularly might also find a pedometer useful such as the Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer.
Customer Review: Halt will repell that barkin' and chargin' dog Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I purchased Halt to offer some protection as I ride my mountain bike through the woods and onto a back road where several dogs like to chase me. I was bit once and the stupid animal control guy didn't even return my call. I decided to take "control" into my own hands. My first ride with Halt called for it's use, in that I was charged by this little monster that has threatened to bite me in the past. One spray sent this guy away in a hurry. He rolled in the dirt to stop the unpleasantness in his eyes etc. I did not spend the rest of the evening with him but I am trusting that the effects did not last too long. I felt kinda bad about doing it but I figured it was better than him taking a bite outta some little kid and needing to be put down. Hopefully, he will associate all cyclists with this unpleasant experience and will learn to not to charge humans (at least those on bikes).
Customer Review: Volume is everything Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This product is perfect for bicyclists and walkers through unchecked dog country. It is diluted pepper spray with alot of volume. When you press the top, it squirts a 12 foot beam of brown liquid. You can sustain the beam for several seconds before running out, just in case your aim is off. That's all you need to handle dog country. Some tips: 1. Don't every spray it in the sink to make sure it works; you'll get a nice little backdraft and shed a few tears; 2. Shake well before heading out; 3. Always go for the nose, not the eyes; 4. Always go for the lead dog in a pack--the rest will stop when he goes down; and, 5. If you are a bicyclist, the best rapid response technique is to put a velcro strap on it and just stick it on an unused portion of your handlebars or frame, for easy access.
