Before purchasing this putting mat, I tried a dozen different mats and "gizmos" at Golfsmith. At the end of the day, this may be the best putting mat I have seen in this price range (and above). The ball rolls well, the speed seems accurate and the dimensions are good. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the ball rolled well regardless of whether the mat was placed on carpet or tile. This material does a good job of simulating real greens.
One of the reviews I read complained about the width of the mat. The author argued that the width prevents you from shooting from the bottom of the mat into the bottom cup. I disagree - it presents an interesting challenge and gives you an alternative to shooting straight over and over. Every once in a while I'll put down 3 balls and shoot the top into the bottom cup, the middle into the middle, and the bottom into the top. You may not do it very often, but it's good to be able to change things up.
My one complaint (which has been covered by the other reviews) is with the way the mat is folded in its box. The last few inches are rolled up in such a way that there is a curve that is difficult to flatten out. I've tried just about anything and it still doesn't want to lay flat. Luckily, the mat is so long that the last 2-3 inches don't hurt the overall experience.
At the end of the day (the fold notwithstanding) I am still rating this Item 5 out of 5 stars. Can you get a better mat - certainly, but you will pay hundreds of dollars. I would recommend this mat over several others retailing for $150+. Unlike many other mats, it lays flat (except for the last 2-3 inches), has great dimensions and accurate speed - what more could you ask for at less than $50? True, there is no ball return - but most are loud and riddled with problems.
