What are the advantages of GolfLogix GPS versus other yardage devices? A handheld GPS device, such as GolfLogix GPS, offers more flexibility during a typical round of golf. You can bring the GPS to the ball and get more accurate distance data. Unlike other laser devices, there is no need to point and aim or have a direct line of sight to the hazard or hole. How do I get golf course maps on my GolfLogix GPS? Included with your initial purchase is access to download a single golf course map of your choice. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the Quick Start Guide located in the box to download the Course Manager Software from the GolfLogix Web site. Then follow the registration and activation screens on your computer to obtain your free golf course map. With a $29.95 annual membership, you can download an unlimited amount of golf courses worldwide (currently more than 15,000 in the database) and have access to GolfLogix product enhancements and upgrades. Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations? The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Golfers should check with their golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event. GPS devices have always been permitted in handicap scoring in recreational rounds. What's in the Box? GolfLogix GPS, USB cable, belt/bag clip, 2 AA alkaline batteries, printed instructions
Sports reviews of GolfLogix Garmin GPSCustomer Review: Awesome Product (made a great Dad's Day Gift!) Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
My Dad had always wanted to get a SkyCaddie so I started researching them and found info on this, and found that the reviews were overwhelmingly in favor of the GolfLogix. I was a little skeptical of Golf GPSs, but I knew Garmin was a front runner in the GPS market so I decided to take a chance. I was not disappointed!
My father said after the first time using it, it saved him ten strokes on his game, because the accuracy of the unit gave him confidence in his club decisions. I've borrowed it a couple times on subsequent trips with him, and it is indeed very accurate in terms of distance to green, hazards and layups. So far we have not noticed an issue with signal problems or innaccurate distances.
The software was very easy to install, set up, and use (even for a technologically illiterate fellow like my dad!) and offers just about any course you could think of. I noticed the little par 3 academy course near my house was even listed, much to my surprise. Searching for and importing courses is a breeze, and the unit holds up to 20, so it's not like you'll have to constantly swap out courses as long as you have a handful of favorites you play often. Battery life was about 22-25 hours, or about enough for 4 or 5 rounds (of 18 holes). The unit comes with a belt clip, but my dad picked up a cell phone holster for a little extra security, and keeps the GPS clipped to his bag.
In a game where every advantage helps, the GolfLogix is an easy-to-use, very accurate tool. I may not be able to speak for the SkyCaddie, but if you're in the market for a golf GPS, I can definitely say the GolfLogix does its job very well. Happy hacking!
Customer Review: A very good golf GPS Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I am a 2 to 3 times a week golfer, a 20 handicap and recently purchased the Garmin GPS-8. I found that it gives me the information that I need and is accurate as to distances to hazards and to the green. It starts the holes (except par 3's) by giving the distance to hazards and then to lay-up distances. When you get close to the green it gives front, middle and back distances. I found the contrast on the screen to be excellent and easy to read in bright sunlight. There are more expensive models that are in color and show the shape of the hole and custom distances but this is the model for the average golfer. The yearly subscription allows you to download an unlimited number of U.S. courses to your computer for $29.95 per year and load 20 course at a time onto the GPS-8. Unlike the Skycaddie which limits you to your states's courses for $29.95.
If you do not renew the subscription after a year Golflogix appears to automatically delete the downloaded courses from your computer but it would appear that if you have loaded them onto the GPS-8 and they are the only courses that you are going to play and they are not changed by redesign, then you would not need to renew the subscription.
Golflogix offers one free download with the purchase which you can choose to test the unit. What they do not tell you is that if you choose the free download, without purchasing the subscription, that when you check "MY ACCOUNT" it will show that your unit is a GPS-7. It will not show as a GPS-8 until you purchase one of the subscription plans. I would recommend this unit to my friends and would purchase it again.
Customer Review: Simple and Accurate Golf GPS Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
It took me a year to decide which golf gps to buy. After doing the research I decided on the Golflogix GPS-8. I bought 2 for my husband and myself about 6 weeks ago. We could not be more pleased. We wanted one that was simple and easy to use. We did not want to be spending lots of time pressing buttons, etc., during a round of golf. This is exactly what we wanted. Turn it on, scroll to the hole you are starting with, and that's it. You just get the yardage--what more do you really need. It has really helped us get to know the real yardage we get with each club. I went from a handicap of 24.4 to 21.8 in 6 weeks and I really believe it's because I now have confidence in my clubs. We use Eneloop rechargeable batteries and get 3 rounds out of one set. We always carry 2 extra batteries just in case. That's another reason why we picked this model. You'll never get stuck because you forgot to recharge the batteries as long as you carry 2 spares with you. The unit does lock up sometimes, but you just turn it off and back on again and you're good to go. Not much of a problem. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a basic golf gps, without all the unnecessary bells and whistles. Also, Amazon had the best price, so we didn't break the bank, especially since we needed two. The only drawback is the $29.95 annual fee for each of us, but considering the bargain price we bought them for, we are still ahead of the game. I recommend buying the case. It's nicely padded and offers protection just in case you drop it.
Customer Review: My 15th Club Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I love my GolfLogix GPS. I have toyed with buying a GPS for the course for several years, but decided to do so recently. I had initially planned on purchasing a Sky Caddie until I did some research and found out about the high hardware failure rates and poor customer service. When I looked at reviews online I couldn't find anyone who rated a Sky Caddie above 3 stars. Would you buy a new club that no one rated any higher than average? Well, I was well on my way to buying a Bushnell range finder until I saw the GolfLogix GPS. 2007 model had excellent ratings as did the 2008, so I bought the 2008 model. I have not been disappointed. They talk about quick service for updates and new course mappings...and they mean it. The first course I played had switched the front and back nines since the course had been mapped. I sent an email and the course was updated in 2 days. I haven't played anywhere that a hasn't been mapped yet, so I can't speak to how long that will take, but I suspect it will be done quickly. Also, battery life is a little short, but I wanted a battery powered one so I could always have spares in the bag...so I don't see this as a significant worry.
One final note, a week after I got my GolfLogix GPS, I shot my first subpar round of my life! Now, I don't want to give it too much credit, but I was so distracted by my new toy, that I played worry-free golf!
Good luck and I hope you find this useful.

Anyone serious or just wants a much better experience on the golf course needs to buy this product. I researched scopes and other GPS products before taking the plunge with GolfLogix from Garmin. The information provided is concise and usable. It immmediatley helped my game save 4-6 strokes from the tee box and fairway. I have used it twice since buying the product at easter and can't believe I tried to make decisions based on suspect course markings or wandering around trying to calculate distances. It is NOT going to correct your golf swing. What it IS going to do is give you absolute confidence for the distance so your only decision is which club fits that distance. The three biggest advantages you will immediately realize are (1) distances to hazards; (2) distances from fairway to green from anywhere on the hole; (3) and my biggest pet peeve: from inside 75 yds and no reliable markings which causes way too much indecision and tentative golf shots. This device clears your mind of clutter and brain lock. From a support and product install standpoint it was a breeze and I have 64 bit Vista. Installation and download of my golf courses I was interested in took inside 10 minutes start to finish with no glitches. Also, I've read about complaints on battery life and not lasting a round of golf. Not in my experience. I still have 75% power on std. batteries after playing two rounds of golf.
