What are the advantages of GolfLogix GPS versus other yardage devices? A handheld GPS device, such as GolfLogix GPS, offers more flexibility during a typical round of golf. You can bring the GPS to the ball and get more accurate distance data. Unlike other laser devices, there is no need to point and aim or have a direct line of sight to the hazard or hole. How do I get golf course maps on my GolfLogix GPS? Included with your initial purchase is access to download a single golf course map of your choice. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the Quick Start Guide located in the box to download the Course Manager Software from the GolfLogix Web site. Then follow the registration and activation screens on your computer to obtain your free golf course map. With a $29.95 annual membership, you can download an unlimited amount of golf courses worldwide (currently more than 15,000 in the database) and have access to GolfLogix product enhancements and upgrades. Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations? The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Golfers should check with their golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event. GPS devices have always been permitted in handicap scoring in recreational rounds. What's in the Box? GolfLogix GPS, USB cable, belt/bag clip, 2 AA alkaline batteries, printed instructions
Sports reviews of GolfLogix GPS by Garmin (2008 Model)Customer Review: Delivers as promised Sport shop rating: 4 StarsThe GolfLogix GPS is sturdy-tough in both appearance and use. It is easy to read and navigate the interface and the information does make a difference, especially on the fairways. Since I walk and carry my clubs, I found that the included belt clip is too fragile and think a holster type carry case would be better...but I'll find something to fix this myself. Also think it consumes normal batteries too fast so I recommend the rechargeable strategy.
My "Skycaddie" friends want one!!!!
Customer Review: Very easy to use!!!! Sport shop rating: 5 StarsIf you are looking for something easy and simple, this is the unit for you. When I'm on the golf course I don't want to worry about hitting different buttons to get the info I need. Golflogix will give you the doglegs, bunkers, and hazards yardage when on the teebox and will automatically change to give the green readings for your approach shots. Also, if you are on hole 1 and your tee shot lands in the fairway on hole 2, Golflogix does not change and will continue to give the correct yardage to the green for hole 1. The set up and dowloading of courses was very easy as well.
Customer Review: Lousy Customer Service Sport shop rating: 1 StarsGood luck with contacting their customer service. Does anyone answer GolfLogix's telephone? I even faxed a message, still no response. When I attempt to download a course, an error message appears that their system is down (now going into week three) On the positive side, the device works with my current list of courses.GolfLogix GPS by Garmin (2008 Model)
Customer Review: My 15th Club Sport shop rating: 5 StarsI love my GolfLogix GPS. I have toyed with buying a GPS for the course for several years, but decided to do so recently. I had initially planned on purchasing a Sky Caddie until I did some research and found out about the high hardware failure rates and poor customer service. When I looked at reviews online I couldn't find anyone who rated a Sky Caddie above 3 stars. Would you buy a new club that no one rated any higher than average? Well, I was well on my way to buying a Bushnell range finder until I saw the GolfLogix GPS. 2007 model had excellent ratings as did the 2008, so I bought the 2008 model. I have not been disappointed. They talk about quick service for updates and new course mappings...and they mean it. The first course I played had switched the front and back nines since the course had been mapped. I sent an email and the course was updated in 2 days. I haven't played anywhere that a hasn't been mapped yet, so I can't speak to how long that will take, but I suspect it will be done quickly. Also, battery life is a little short, but I wanted a battery powered one so I could always have spares in the bag...so I don't see this as a significant worry.
One final note, a week after I got my GolfLogix GPS, I shot my first subpar round of my life! Now, I don't want to give it too much credit, but I was so distracted by my new toy, that I played worry-free golf!
Good luck and I hope you find this useful.
Customer Review: Great for Tournament Play! Sport shop rating: 4 StarsI bought this as a gift for my husband. We like to play couples tournaments, and this has been great for that. It is nice to know the yardages on unfamiliar courses, and how far to each part of the green. Easy to use and can't wait to take it on vacation with us.
