Sports reviews of Garrity Power Lite 3 LED Crank Light (Titanium Silver/Black)Customer Review: A wonderful flashlight, updated design even better Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I purchased this flashlight for emergencies. Haven't had one yet but it's seen a lot of causual use. It's great not having to worry about changing batteries. Turning the crank is quite easy. You get many minutes of light after ten or so seconds of cranking. Also, if the flashlight is turned off after cranking it holds a charge for quite a while.
I liked it so much that I bought a second one, which now has a slightly different design. Unlike some reviewers, I prefer the new design. The crank is even easier to turn. When you first press the on button the 3 leds come on as before, but now the second click of the on button reduces it to one led, while the third click turns it back off. The new "one led" option allows the light to stay on longer, for the same amount of crankng. It is good for times when you don't need a bright light.
The feel of the on and off button in the new design is a positive click; the first version felt mushy to me. The crank locks into place in with a more positive click. The crank has been shaped so that when it is locked into place the grip of the flashlight is more contoured and fits into my hand better.
The old design does put out a whiter light than the new design, but when I tried both lights on the same text I found that I could read better with new design. Also, when looking at something at a distance I find the pattern of light thrown out by the new design to be more even.
Customer Review: Good, reliable, crank flashlight -- I've tried several brands, this is the best! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Before I discovered the Garrity Crank Light I had tried the "shaker" flashlights and several other brands of crank-powered lights. The Garrity is by far the best of the products.
One great advantage of the Garrity design is that you can crank whether the light is on or off. With another brand, cranking while the light was on sharply decreased the ability of the battery to take a charge after that -- basically ruining the unit. The Garrity crank is also much "tighter" than the other brands I have tried; my new rule of thumb when examining these lights is if the crank has significant play before it starts to engage, stay away from it! The unit is large enough for a comfortable grip without hitting your knuckles while cranking, and the crank handle can be used to prop the light up at several different angles while changing a tire, etc.
I have one of these in each car, one in my hiking backpack, and one in the house, and I watch for sales because I want to give one to everyone I know. (I have a campaign to convince other people to switch to rechargeable batteries and not send more "disposable" batteries to the landfill. But also, I think this is a good tool which everyone could use and appreciate.) Based upon my experience with these lights, I am going to try the other Garrity products including the lantern.
Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Hurricane Ike Tested and Approved Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Interestingly enough, I ordered and received this flashlight only weeks before Hurricane Ike knocked out electric power in most of the Houston area.
What it is:
A very reliable source of light if you need it. It is adequate for finding your way around the house in pitch dark. Some reviews complain that the LEDs are not very bright. Well, they are not as bright as a Maglight, but if the batteries are dead in your Maglight... you will be glad you bought one of these. It is adequate and dependable. It is still functional after countless cycles of use, dim, crank, use, dim, crank.
What it isn't:
It is not a replacement for traditional (brighter) flashlights and other light sources. You will want something brighter to read by. But if you don't want to trip over the dog in the middle of a power blackout, THIS THING WORKS. No it does not last an hour on a crank cycle. Did you really believe that it would? My guess is about 30 minutes, but frankly I have not timed it.
P.S. I have now used more than two dozen D-cell batteries and many of my Maglights are dead. (Ya would have thought that would be enough backup batteries, huh?) I wish I had ordered a couple more of these crank flashlights.

Customer Review: Garrity Power Lite 3 LED Crank Lite - Excellent, reliable flashlight Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
The Garrity Power Lite 3 LED Crank Lite has been a very reliable flashlight. I keep one in each of the cars and one in my bedroom in case of power failure. For a long time I kept standard flashlights with standard D-batteries in the glove compartment of the cars and more than once, the light was dead when I needed it. So, I read the reviews on several several crank lights and settled on this one mainly after reading the excellent review of NLee the Engineer. These lights have actually exceeded my expectations. If you crank them for a minute and use them only briefly, the charge lasts for months without even having to crank it again! I've used one of the lights probably a dozen times over a period of 6 months with one crank of about one minute. I've not tested it's staying power for one continuous use after charging but I'm not too concerned since all I'll have to do is crank it for a minute if it gives out.
Customer Review: Buy this for your kids! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
This flashlight is awesome. I'm buying 4 more for my little nieces and nephews to add in with their Christmas presents this year. Wind up flashlights are excellent for both boys and girls. Our family does a lot of camping and hiking, so these are nice for kids because they tend to leave the flashlight on at night (on accident or so they say) and then if it is battery powered it is dead by morning and now we have no flashlight for the remainder of our outdoor adventure. Having a wind up flashlight eliminates buying more batteries and scolding your kids for forgetting to turn them off. Plus - kids LOVE the wind up action and they get to see how they can control energy - like their own little science experiment! Very cool!
