I've had mine for six months or so, and have had no problems with it. There is no particular smell, unless I put my nose right on it, and even then the smell is not unpleasant. I was hoping to help the lower back and hip pain I get when sitting at my home computer for more than a few minutes. It definitely does help. It seems to also help work my "core" muscles as I sit - a bonus! The main drawback is that my husband does not like sitting on it, so he always takes it off -- and I often don't remember to put it back on until my back starts hurting.
