Sports reviews of Fenix PD30 Level High Performance Cree LED FlashlightCustomer Review: Outstanding pocket flashlight Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I am very pleased! Let's cut to the chase first. I work in a bad part of town, in which the light is very limited. Last night I walked around the block and down the alleys, occasionally turning the light on to shine it into an abandoned yard, an empty building, etc. The light was crisp, bright, and effective!
By way of comparison, it is brighter than both the old C cell and D cell full size Maglights that I used to own. It is brighter than the single cr123 Surefire that I own, and at least as bright as the Stinger that I keep in my truck. The light is a very crisp white color though, where the Stinger gives off a yellowish light.
I enjoyed using the different levels of light, but I would only use those around the house. If I were searching for a suspect or clearing a house, then I would definitely use the highest setting. I had no use for the SOS, but the strobe light would be very effective for signaling a chopper or just getting peoples attention.
The fit and finish were great, and the price cannot be touched. The flashlight is about half the size of my Stinger, and very lightweight. Most of the people I work with wear suits, and everyone felt that this could be worn on the belt, or carried in a pocket without damaging your clothes. A female officer that looked at my light last night is buying one to keep in her purse.
Overall I was pleased with the Fenix product. I just ordered a similar Fenix flashlight that uses AA batteries to keep in my motorcycles hard bags.
Customer Review: This LED flashlight is a must have! Great price/size and brightness combination. Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
Summary:
This LED flashlight is a must have! Great price/size and brightness combination.
I am out taking pictures at sunset and at night all the time, so I always have a flashlight with me. I have started researching and now buying all sorts of different LED flashlights looking for a balance between being portable/size and brightness (I guess they call this being a flashaholic). So far I have bought a AAA LED light, a small 2 cell AA light, this light and then a 700 lumen MC-E light. This light is FANTASTIC and has been with me the most so far. It fits perfectly in my pocket or in the camera bag without the weight of a big mag light. The 3 levels of brightness, coupled with small size make this a great light that I will keep with me for all sorts of outings. Whether it is out taking pictures, hiking, or just walking to the car at night in the parking lot, this works. It is small enough my kids can easily use it as well. Pick up a box Tenergy bulk batteries so you don't pay expensive prices at the local stores.
Pros:
Nice bright light
3 level of brightness
Solid feel that fits nicely in your hand and in your pocket.
Great price!
Battery life seems good so far.
Cons:
For new people trying the flashlight, they don't know to turn the head for the higher-power light - minor nit.
Get one of these lights! You can't go wrong.
Customer Review: Great light for every day carry! Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I received this light a few weeks ago and I just can't say enough for it. This is a brilliantly bright light, and in a form factor small enough to easily carry every day. The normal mode gives you a nice variety of output, and if you really want to light things up its just a quick twist of the head. A twist of the tailcap will lock the light out so it doesn't waste the batteries lighting up your pocket. You really can't beat the features of this little light and it seems to very well constructed. My only issue is I don't think the beam quite reaches out to 200m but it will shine farther than anything else its size (or lots of things larger!) so thats moot.
Pro's
-Aluminum Construction
-Waterproof (haven't had to use this yet, but its a nice thought)
-6 types of output depending on your needs
-BRIGHT!!
-No bulbs to break or replace
-Lockout tailcap switch
-Included holster
-Compact size
Cons
-Rather expensive batteries, but standard for high performance lights
-Instruction manual written by a beginning ESL student
-Wish it included a clip, its small enough to clip in a pocket
-?Range? (in regards to the literature, not a relative performance issue at ALL)
Fantastic light for the money, I'll be ordering a few more for Christmas presents!
Customer Review: Fenix PD30 - Truly Amazing Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I couldn't be more than pleased with my PD30. Actually, I couldn't wait for dark to try it out. I took my dog for a walk around my marina and the light from this little thing reflected off buoys and buildings across the lake. I'm a boater and the SOS mode is a nice touch, but the main reason I bought this was for its strobe function.
Instead of carrying a firearm or Taser, which are prohibited at my workplace, I carry this. We carry our night deposits from the store and that walk to the car is the worst part. This unit WILL and DOES disorient people to the point where I could get to safety if approached. My co-workers who spent hundreds+ on firearms laughed at me and I put them to the test. Even in broad daylight, my cynical volunteers were taken aback by the stunning, blinding light and changed their tune. It's about the same length as my Leatherman tool, so both fit on my belt with no discomfort. This thing is smaller than I thought and still can't believe the light it puts out!
The instructions were not very clear on the different settings. It does have different light intensities by not only turning the bezel, but also by tapping the thumb cap.
This is worth every penny.
Customer Review: Superb Tactical Light for my duties Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I serve, and our platoon is out to do roadblocks and homesearch regularly. Tried the LD10 as first Fenix. Very impressed with its pocket size and 100+ lumens which is very effective in car searches and off-road (bushes) checking. Bought a number of PD20 and a few PD30 for my people and myself. All are wonderful lights comparing to our previous use of SureFires. Price is much cheaper, as strong, and with more lumens of the same size. I bought a dozen of 3.0v rechargeable cr123a to use with these fenix's, and the output is similar to non-rechargeable cr123a. So, the battery costs are a plus everytime we put thse fenix into actions. Recommend LD10 for your car (with rechargeable eneloop AA), and PD20 or PD30 (with 3.0v rechargeable cr123a) for your home or outdoor activities. I installed one PD30 on my mp5 too, and it works very well too. This chinese made flashlights are no second to surefires. But 3 times cheaper. Over and Out.
