Description of Fenix L2D 6 Level High Performance Cree LED Flashlight (Black)The Fenix L1D CE is digitally regulated and digitally controlled. It has two output modes which produce a total of six levels of output. These modes not only allow the user to select the best compromise between brightness and runtime for any given task, but they also help to aid in an emergency. The L1D CE does all this and still retains a very compact size. If you're looking for solid reliability, digitally-regulated brightness, and compact size, this Fenix is for you.

This has replaced my D cell Maglights. Output levels give you choice between long life and blinding white light. Is difficult to distinguish between low and lowest. Lowest still bright enough for all house tasks and almost too bright for tent reading.
Output far exceeds Luxeon models. Cree LEDs are more efficient than Luxeon, less waste heat per lumen.
Unscrewing the tail cap will lock out accidental activation, but will back switch components out of tail housing. Switch will not function if not seated in tail housing. Repair requires pointed object (or special two prong wrench you'll never own) to screw it back down. This should have been addressed with Locktite at factory.
I only use AA lithium batteries, they don't leak and have very long shelf life.
EDIT-
One of my two units has problems. After very little use high mode flickers. New batteries didn't help.

This is one awesome light! You can read all of these reviews but you really will not believe just how bright that this little light is until you actually try it! I was kind of skeptical at first, especially when I saw the price. It is well worth it, the quality is great, it will last a long time. Another great thing for me is that you use AA batteries instead of some other harder to find, more expensive batteries. I can tell you that this "Cree Q5 Edition LED" technology is actually very amazing! It is nothing like any of the other LED lights that I have purchased before, not even in the same league!
I use it for my bicycle light riding back and forth to work at night. It is far brighter than the other two 5-LED lights that I had on my bike combined!! I had also bought the Fenix bike mount so the light comes off really easy so I can use it camping or where ever. I would highly reccomend it to anyone!
Customer Review: Excellent value, very bright, very tough Sport shop rating: 5 Stars
I've had this light for 2 months now and used it around the house, in the neighborhood, backpacking in the north woods, and most recently on a trip to the Virgin Islands. This is a very good light. Other reviewers have summed up its features and quality pretty well. I'll add this experience: late one night on St John in the carribean, I was sitting on the beach and decided to see how well the LD20 worked underwater (it is IPX-8 rated, meaning waterproof but not dive rated). Worked like a charm, and really dazzled underwater! Decided to risk it a bit and went out night snorkeling (w/ a certified dive light as back-up just in case). Again, worked great. Proceeded to snorkel for 3 nights in a row using the Fenix. Now, I realize its not dive certified and I certainly never submerged it below 1 meter, but it kept working just fine. Cleaned it up when I got home. Very well manufactured, very bright.

This is a daily use item for me at work, and has been the cause of flashlight envy from my co-workers. To be brief, the output of this light is amazing for such a small package. It is as bright as many of the surefire lights (which cost roughly twice as much), and brighter than a 3D Maglight (and many times smaller). The fact that this light can put out 180 lumens in max - output mode using AA is fantastic (AA's are cheap and easy to come by) while many other lights in the same size range run off CR123A batteries (which are expensive and can be hard to come by if traveling). I have had this light for three years now, it has been dropped too many times to count, and most recently been put through the wash and is still going strong. My wife just bought me a second to keep in my truck. I can't recommend this light enough.

As other reviewers have said, this is an AWESOME light. Its small, lightweight, and bright, with great beam throw. Plus it runs on cheap, easily obtainable AA batteries. It also has 6 different outputs. Why would you want lower beam outputs? Because this light is way to bright for close range stuff (like lighting up the inside of your computer, or trying to read something in the dark). When I first got it, I couldn't wait for it to get dark to see how well it holds up, and it did not disappoint. I ordered this light along with the Fenix TK10 and both were amazing. I tested it side by side by side along with my Surefire G2 LED, and I love these Fenix lights. Even if your not a flashlight geek, just get one of these L2D-CE (since it uses 2 AA batteries, great for regular folks) and never look back.
