Description of Fenix L2D 6 Level High Performance Cree LED Flashlight (Black)

The Fenix L1D CE is digitally regulated and digitally controlled. It has two output modes which produce a total of six levels of output. These modes not only allow the user to select the best compromise between brightness and runtime for any given task, but they also help to aid in an emergency. The L1D CE does all this and still retains a very compact size. If you're looking for solid reliability, digitally-regulated brightness, and compact size, this Fenix is for you.

Customer Review: Look into the light !!!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

Indeed the LED technology reached a different level.

Star Trek design with a strong build :))

On the lowest setting it will probably stay lit for days, although I didn't really check. Will be bright enough to function in a tent or after a power failure without being scared that the batteries will die.

On the highest setting it will create a nice, bright cone of light in front of you, approximately 20 yards wide with the main beam hitting somewhere at 100 yards. It will get hot after 10 minutes, but it will not burn your fingers. If your life depends on it, it can stay on high until the batteries are dead, although not recommended!!!!

On the second and third highest settings it is bright enough to show you the way while bicycling or running through the woods and for long time, depending on batteries.

The strobe will probably not stop an atacker but is a cool feature if your neighbourhood disco club runs out of lights.

The SOS feature will help when living dangerously will bring you to the edge.

The electronics will feel the batteries weakening and keep the chosen level of brightess for as long as possible, but when the batteries get close to dying, the same electronics will switch to the lowest setting so that you will not be left completely in the dark.

I swear this to be the truth and nothing but the truth....as observed by me :))))

Enjoy the light !!!

Customer Review: Amazingly Bright!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I haven't spent this much on a flashlight since I bought my mag charger several years ago. Long ago however, the nicad in the mag charger don't really seem to hold a charge, so I went through buying several of the mag led lights. When my 2aa mag light switch went bad and starting reading that a lot of other people were having trouble I thought I would get something new and bright. I started researching Streamlight and Surefire. The Streamlight did not seem bright enough, and the Surefire was really out of my budget for a flashlight. In researching I came across the Fenix brand of lights. I never heard of them but after doing some research, they seemed like a good light. When I received it, I was not disappointed. The build quality is very nice, and the light is extremely bright. Even on low it is brighter than my 3aa mag luxeon led light and on high, it is brighter than my 2D Mag Luxeon. I wouldn't say it is comparable to a handheld spotlight or a car headlight, but for something powered by only 2AA's it is amazingly bright (by the way I was also considering a light powered by CR123's however, I decided it was much easier to go with an AA powered light so that I would not have to buy lithiums in bulk online). It may have been somewhat of a splurge, but I am very happy with the brightness and am hoping that this will last for a long time to come.

Customer Review: What's not to like?
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

First of all, what's not to like?

The pros: There's a million positive things about this flashlight that I won't go into since many people have already.

The cons: It doesn't seem too tough. It should hold up to daily use and probably some drops onto rock or concrete but I don't see it surviving much more. The aluminum casing is very thin. Time will tell I guess. Compared to the INOVA X series... well it doesn't compare.

Furthermore, I had never used a flashlight with different lumen settings nor had I ever used one that went up to 180. This isn't a negative aspect of the product, but I alway imagined 180 lumens being brighter. Also, there is little difference between the brightness settings. However, it is noticeably brighter in the turbo mode at 180 lumens than at 12 lumens.

These two minor issues weren't enough to lower it a star. It did everything it said it would and I've seen test where the light output last longer than the factory specs. It never claimed to be extremely tough (so therefore no stars removed) and it never said "180 lumens will be as bright as you always imagined" (and so therefore no stars were removed).

All in all, worth the money IMO.

Customer Review: The brightest flashlight I've ever owned and well worth the investment.
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

I bought this flashlight a few months ago to take to Egypt so I could pretend I'm an explorer and crawl around inside of things and illuminate dark areas. Compared to a regular flashlight I was using and that I thought was bright, the Fenix L2D completely obliterated the other flashlight.

True story: I got to go inside the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Cairo and since it was dark (and extremely humid, but that's another story), everyone had their flashlights out. I pulled out this flashlight and overpowered their flashlights so much that I attracted a few people who were interested in what I was shining my light on and even got a few "wows" out of how bright this was. And this was even without it being super bright!

I haven't used the other two modes - the rapid flashing or the super bright mode that much. The rapid flashing will literally cause disorientation if you shine it at someone (good if you're a police officer, bad if you're a robber.)

I never thought that I'd care about flashlights or just thought that Maglites were the awesome ones. Ever since I got this, I'm extremely happy and overwhelmed at the sheer awesomeness of this.

Customer Review: Excellent flashlight!
Sport shop rating: 5 Stars

The utility of this flashlight is amazing. The ability to choose from multiple light levels means you can get the right amount of light for the task, not sacrificing battery life for wasted light. Using AA batteries means that a source of power is available almost anywhere at any time. The extreme brightness on "high" and "turbo" provide that extra oomph if and when you really need it.

I use this flashlight both as a general-purpose flashlight and as a bicycle headlight. When poking around in dark and cramped places the "low" mode is often sufficient and gives great battery life. Similarly, when riding in well-lit suburban areas I can use the "low" setting as a way to improve my visibility to cars. As the amount of light I need increases, the flashlight is able to keep up and provide more. The top end "turbo" mode easily lights up dark rooms, and can throw light far enough to make me feel safe riding at high speeds in rural areas.
